Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai – 13

This is it. The conclusion to one of the most important and intriguing arcs of the story; the Massacre chapter. After witnessing first hand how everyone tried so hard to help Satoko and determined to change fate, Rika garners enough courage and confidence to reveal everything, from the circumstances leading to her tragic death as well as the reason behind her murder. Could this chain of events never seen before in other resets be the impetus for Rika to defy destiny and finally obtain her happy ending? It was not to be.

Takano's plans go into full motion with her first victims being Tomitake and Iirie as always, but this time around, Oiishi too, met his untimely demise, which was surprising to say the least, since he had always survived every arc before this. With the obstacle that would have most likely exposed her plans out of the way, Takano sorties the YamaInus to capture Rika. Fortunately, Satoko and Rika manage to elude them for the time being, although not for long. Just as they were about to be captured, Keiichi, Rena, Mion and Shion, who had earlier left for home, showed up in the nick of time and incapacitated their oppressors.

After managing to take out a fair number of YamaInus, the gang's plan of escape came to a grinding halt, when Takano appeared out of nowhere and shot Keiichi, killing him. From there, everything went into a downward spiral, as each of Rika's allies were cut down one by one, killed by Takano personally in cold blood.

After everyone has been eliminated, with Rika being the sole survivor, Takano was about to capture Rika to perform the sacrificial ritual when she was stopped by the latter, asking for Takano to do it without sedating her, so the image of her final moments and the revelation that Takano was the true villain would be burned into her memories, so she could bring it with her to the next reset.

And so, as it was with the every reset before this, Rika meets her doom, but just before she is killed, ghosts of her best friends come to greet her, apologizing and lamenting that they could have done better to avoid this tragedy. Rika bears no grudges towards her comrades and instead thanks them for being there for here until the end.

We are taken to the afterlife, where the disheartened Rika, again talks about giving up once again, despite everything that was done, when she was interrupted by her friends who were also there. Rena then tells Rika the reason the miracle did not occur was because they were still not united, and the one member that should have joined them was none other than Hanyuu, who after all these times, finally agrees to fight fate to the very end as well. Rika then tells everyone that they will meet again in the next world, where they will RAW RAW FIGHT THE POWER! DO THE IMPOSSIBLE, SEE THE INVISIBLE! RAW RAW FIGHT THE POWER!

Returning to the living plane, we see Takano and her YamaInus quarantining the rest of the Hinamizawa population and executing them there after, thus completing Takano's plan for ascension to deityhood and another bad end for everyone.

KATTA! KEIKAKU DOORI DA! Shin out.

School_Days – 12 [FINAL]

Posted by Shin

Despite the fiasco last week it's nice to see the broadcasters finally muster the courage to air the final episode to this series, albeit heavily censored of course. After watching this, I now understand why they were so desperately trying to get it off air in the first place and treat viewers to Nice Boat instead.

Unlike the bad endings portrayed in the game, the one shown here is far more gruesome than I had originally anticipated and made Higurashi's somewhat over the top cartoony violence laughable. Picking up where the previous episode left off, we see Katsura and Makoto together again after the former decided to patch things up. As the pair settle down for dinner at a restaurant, Makoto receives a call from Sekai who has already prepared food for the him. Suspecting that something is aloft, Sekai questions Makoto on why he refuses to come home and is given a vague reply. He then lashes out at her and hangs up on her, leaving Sekai speechless.

After apologizing to him, she heads back home, but encounters the pair along the way. Infuriated, she rushes to back to the apartment demanding an explanation, only to have Katsura adding insult to injury by accusing Sekai of trying to break her and Makoto apart by seducing him and such, not even leaving Sekai any chance of retorting. As a final blow, she kisses Makoto in front of her prompting Sekai to scream in agony.

=(

>=(

The now broken Sekai lies in bed in anguish when she suddenly receives a message from Makoto, who suggests to Sekai that she should abort the baby as soon as possible as it would be less taxing on the body. That was the final straw.

The following scene entails what fans have been hoping would happen to that worthless bastard, and while being a disturbing sequence, it was satisfying to see Makoto get his just desserts. Having said that, the scene would have been much better if they had the accompanying sound effects to go with it, which was omitted for obvious reasons, not to mention the black blood which made everything look out of place. Apparently the special screening held by Overflow for the final episode contained red blood, with more emphasis on the stabbings as well as sound effects, which for once, I'm looking forward to the DVD rips not for omitted fanservice.

Umm, Sekai, that's not what I had in mind when I said "Girl on top."

Anyway, Sekai who comes to realization of what had took place flees the scene, with Katsura discovering the corpse later. Judging from her reaction, my suspicions on Katsura being broken as well came true, and she seem unfazed and displayed not even the slightest ounce of shock.

Later on, Sekai is asked by Katsura to meet in school for unknown reasons. Unaware of the terrible danger that awaits her, Sekai proceeds to the meeting point and comes across a bag on a bench... Katsura then approaches Sekai and asks whether she went for the abortion already, which Sekai quickly dismisses. Katsura proceeds to accuse Sekai further by claiming the entire pregnancy thing was just a ruse to lure Makoto away. Sekai insists otherwise and says that she let him do whatever he wanted to her because she wanted to be his girlfriend too. With an empty look on her eyes, Katsura then asks Sekai to find out what he thought about it herself. Attention is then turned to the bag, which contained Makoto's decapitated head. OKAY I DID NOT EXPECT THAT!111

Katsura then tells Sekai that she wanted to know if she was really pregnant or not and takes out a cleaver. Sekai never stood a chance.

Surely, a pregnancy test kit would have been better?!

What an aesthetically pleasing marine vessel.

The following scene is symbolic and meaningful in many ways, as we see Katsura, with Makoto's severed head in arms, curling up on board a yacht drifting into the sunset. At the end of it all, I must really hand it out to the team for producing this fine piece of work, which seemingly at first looked like any other harem anime. And while some are aware of the bad endings, we never really know which one to expect or whether or not there was going to be one at all. Good job building up the story and at the same time managing to cram in enough character development for people to actually empathize. Not the greatest of storylines around but I'll always look back at School Days and think to myself "That was some Nice Boat." Shin out.

First off all, my image host's bandwidth has been killed so I have to host images elsewhere now. 197.gif

Well, it seems that my previous comment has made it to the local papers in lovely Singapore and has gotten Mr Sing's attention to the extent he's apparently shaking in his boots. Lawl. In any case, here are some newspaper clippings that bear mention to it.

With a downloader? More like "double-6-ed so many downloaders~ serve them right!" to me. Also, I guess he's under so much stress he couldn't remember when he posted his comments...

More random clippings. Yes, that's the wanted posted I made. XDDD

If found to be genuine, the following is pretty much the epitome of divine retribution; as I've mentioned in my other post on how Odex have been going around busting downloaders, it would seem as though that they're slowly being suppressed into submission. A glimmer of hope comes in a form of some great detective work from the members of the Singapore based Hardware Zone forums, as they've managed to track down one of Odex's directors, Stephen Sing Xin Yang, who has carelessly left traces of himself gloating about his deeds.

gloat.jpg

The alleged posts by the head honcho himself.

And just like an episode of CSI, the evidences kept coming in, all leading to Mr Sing himself, everything from his contact details to his picture.

The most hated man in Singapore's anime community.

Wanted: Dead Or Alive. Preferbly dead, from the looks of it. Lawl.

As of posting, the reactions to this revelation are what you'd expect from the community, mainly disgust and disappointment at how a man who doesn't look any more different from your average otaku could do something like screwing his kind to that extent over money. Do visit that topic from time to time for more updates and such on this finding(hopefully it does not get deleted) Well in any case, if it does turn out to be true, Mr Sing is going to have great difficulty walking the streets of Singapore safely, as there might be some scornful otaku at the corners waiting to ambush him. The thought of it alone excites me. Shin out.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei – 04

If there's one reason why I like SZS a lot, it would probably be because of the twisted and inane nature of the main characters and how they are portrayed each week. For this episode, we are introduced to another 2 of the Pink Supervisor's students, first being Abiru Kobushi, the bandaged character so to speak, who is a suspected victim of domestic violence. The teacher is then asked to speak with her father regarding the matter and spots him shopping. Being the paranoid person that he is, the Pink Supervisor stalks him instead and watches as he makes purchases. As he enters a kitchen utensils shop, the Pink Supervisor immediately draws the conclusion that the father is buying things to abuse his daughter, no matter how unlikely these items can be used to hurt someone. The result? Every retailer in the district is informed about this matter, and they refuse to sell anything to Kobushi's dad and come up with weird theories on how the objects will be utilized to torture her.

We then shift our focus to Fuura, who has fallen into a tiger pit. While most people will be panicking and screaming for lives, Positive-tan remains ever so calm and at first insists it's a bad dream. Even after realizing it's not, she remains steadfast and states that it's okay to eaten alive, as did Buddha in the holy scriptures and claims she will become a god for doing so.

Just as Fuura is about to be attacked by the tiger, she is promptly saved by Kobushi, whom we discover actually got all her injuries when she interacts with the animals, mainly by pulling their tails. We also find out that she is also an avid tail collector. Haha, oh wow. On another note, the show slips in a parody on the Billy's Boot Camp exercise program featuring Kobushi's dad.

Yes, it's as gay as it looks.

As did the previous episode, we're introduced to the more interesting character in the second half, and this time around, we get to see Meru Otonashi, at first glance your typical shy soft spoken girl. Keeping in mind the show we're watching, it does away with the stereotypes and Meru-chan is actually a verbally abusive person, although she can only communicate through her cellphone, probably a representation of online flamers and trolls. While we've seen a glimpse of her nature in previous episodes, this time she goes all out and flames everyone in her class, sparing no one, well except for Maria, since she only owns a pager.

Meru's spot on analysis on Kaera's character.

If you notice the pockets in her blouse first, you're gay.

Sneak preview of future episodes?

Her SMS'ing tyranny is put to a stop when she swaps places with Fuura, whose location is out of coverage area. And if you deprive an obsessed person out of something, this is what happens. Without fail, Fuura steps in and says that Meru's current status is similar to that of her mother's during that time when, well...

!!!!!????

The episode comes to a close as Fuura smack Meru in the head with a gigantic cross and calms her down with a little prep talk, although in truth it actually had a reverse effect, scaring Meru out of her wits. Another week of random fanservice and weirdness! Oh, do watch out for the Final Fantasy reference at the end of the episode. Shin out.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei – 03

Instead of the usual attempt at suicide, our Pink Supervisor drops dead and becomes one of Raito's many victims....

....not. That's how this week's episode opens, much to my delight, considering L's death was THE highlight of Death Note, which till today I still think should have ended at that point, since Near and Mellow's arc was pretty lame, but I digress.

Test's are coming up, as the ever callous teacher informs his students, although he's not placing any sort of hope in them, much to their displeasure. He instead places all his eggs in one basket and tells them that a returnee (basically a student of the same school who has spent time overseas) will be joining their ranks, and will be relying on that student alone to raise the class average. He is then brought back to reality, as he is told a single student won't be sufficient to raise the average should all of them do badly(duh), and it hits him, to which he reacted with attempted suicide(again)

Let's become taller together!

The returnee, that goes by the name of Kaere Kimura then walks in on them, and at first glance resembles an obnoxious kogal with bleached hair which she is, although there's more to it than meets the eye. Disturbed by the clash in cultural differences she witnessed, she rambles on about the some gestures and how they mean certain things in the country she went, of the which are really weird, like apparently if you're male and posses an image of strawberries, it means you're virgin (lawl)

Pink Supervisor Foreign Country Laws

Being the patriots that they are, the students get annoyed with Kaere's behavior and tells her off. This triggers some sort of personality change within Kaere and she then switches to her other self, the well-mannered and shy, all Japanese, Kaede Kimura. It wouldn't be such a hassle of she stayed this way, but it doesn't last long and to make matters worse, her Japanese self falls in love with the Pink Supervisor.

Of course, his number one fan, stalker-chan has something to say about that. Kaede is at despair and she witnesses the "closeness" of the latter's relationship with the teacher, and attempts suicide(uh huh), but is stopped in time by the Pink Supervisor. You'd think this would make her like him even more than before, but alas, she switches back into Kaere who then threatens to sue him for sexual harassment. ORZ

///////

Moving on to the second half of the show, we're introduced to a lovable little brown girl by the name of Sekiutsu Tarou(what?), which somewhat irritates Chiri since it's pretty obvious it's a boy's name and everyone act nonchalantly despite having someone who they've not seen before attend their class all of the sudden. Chiri then tails the little brown girl home, and stumbles upon Fuura, who tags along. They then reach a ramshackle and dilapidated room and to their shock, is filled with illegal immigrants or Asian returnees, as per Fuura's implausible logic.

And the rest are named Toyota, Sony, Sanyo, Toshiba and etc. The little
brown girl is known as Maria though.

Japan, the land of abundance, throws away working television sets, bicycles, refrigerators and even...

Why Japanese people are so kind....

All in all, it's a pretty decent episode, but only in the second half when Maria-chan is introduced. And judging from what I've read in the (scanlated) manga thus far, there should be a few more girls left to be introduced, including Bandage-tan and Cellphone-tan. I doubt this show would make it past the 12 episode mark, but that's pretty normal nowadays, unless they decide to extend it, like Nagasarete Airantou or Seto no Hanayome. Shin out..
