Fall Anime Starting!

Posted by gaiden

Despite the high piles of anime consuming my external HDD space need attention, these few titles caught my attention after reading a few blogs' entry on it, particularly hashime.

Basically, I would love to run through all the anime titles because yuu never know until yuu try it. However, it is impossible. Not to mention summer, even the spring season anime or the last year's one are still pending. *Z0MG*

Anyway, with reference to hashime's entry, here's a few titles I would love to watch:

Mokke

Ever since Ghost Hunt, I had been going after any anime that is spiritual-related eg. ~ayakashi~ Japanese Classic Horror, TMGK, Shounen Onmyouji. Therefore I'm not going to let go of this one. Plus, this is a Madhouse production and I pretty fancy Kawasumi Ayako (Saber in FSN, Nodame in Nodame Cantabile, Rurippe in Gatekeepers).

Mobile Suit Gundam 00

New Gundam Series with lots of bishies. Reminds me alot of Gundam Wing. I love bishies, thus I don't see a reason why I'm not watching this. :P

Clannad

I wanna watch anything produced by Visual Art's/Key. This time, KyoAni takes part in the production as well. I just love music by Key particularly those from AIR - because I haven't finish watch Kanon yet. ^^;;

You're Under Arrest!: Full Throttle

This really makes me feel nostalgic! The second season (I didn't get to watch first season though) aired on AXN many years back was one of my favourite. Seriously, I thought that was the last and never had expect a third installment. Gonna watch it to find out what's more with Miyuki and Natsumi.

For the time being, this 4 series would suffice. I would pick up a few more titles as the series started airing and the chances of me watching more is subjected to time, HDD space and fansubs availability.

Baccano!

Posted by Shin

It's pretty hard to describe this show with words alone, so I made the following to better explain what it's all about.

w-e-g.jpg

That image sort of sums up what this underrated gem is all about. Set in 1930's America when the Mafia was still active during the Prohibition era, it features a huge cast of characters, each with their own stories, that at first seem unrelated but intertwine with one another later in the story. It's usually hard to have so many characters and yet make them uniquely distinct and likeable, but Baccano! has managed to pull it off. Eccentric robbers Miria and Isaac, up and coming Mafia executive Firo, artificially created homonculus Ennis, psychopathic assassin Ladd and delinquent Jacuzzi are just some of the characters. With such a diverse background, you'd be wondering what these people have in common. Well, all these main characters share one amazing trait, which is immortality.

That's right, despite its realistic setting and cast, it is this one element of the show that make it so intriguingly watchable. While even at this point after watching 5 episodes, I don't really have a clear idea how the story will unfold, other than the fact their actions will affect one another eventually.

As of this point, they are still focusing on each of the character's background story and how these people came about in obtaining their powers as well as showing what is currently happening in the present as most of these people right now are converged together and are on board a train and as shown in the first episode will end in disaster. Being only 13 episodes short, it serves as a nice distraction for those who are waiting for Autumn's shows to start airing, such as myself, although I wish it could have been longer as I've taken a keen interest in it as it is the only anime around with a mafia setting. Oh well, here's to hoping we get a true blue mafia themed anime soon. Shin out.

Rebuild of Evangelion

Posted by gaiden

I just have to write about this coming soon movie (not the live action) right after reading about it at Memento and watching the trailer at Youtube despite the packed schedule. :P Yes, I know I am very out-dated but seriously, I haven't been updating myself much with these news and info.

The first movie of the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy releasing on 1st of September 2007 in Japan is EVANGELION:1.0 YOU ARE (NOT) ALONE. Upon watching the trailer here, I actually didn't see much difference from the series. Of course the graphic is more advanced with the usage of 3D and the artwork looked more refined.

Most of the scenes looked exactly the same as the series to me and I seriously couldn't tell if there's any difference because the last time I watched the series was like about 9 to 10 years back? Then, I read somewhere that the first movie comprises of the first few episodes of the series. Only then I realized that Kaworu was in the trailer. If the first episode is somewhat the introduction of the series, Kaworu was brought in very early here. Which means, the plot could be different from the original.

Besides that, I guess the design of the EVAs and Angels would be slightly different. I am not too sure about the EVAs but on Wikipedia, a picture of EVA01 from the trailer was put up and described as the new look. As for the Angels, according to Memento here (scroll down to the comments), the design of the 4th Angel, Shamshel is different.

I don't see any sign of Asuka therefore I am expecting her to appear only in the second movie which (according to Wikipedia) will be released next year.

The cast consists of the original seiyuus that voiced the characters in the original series.

The theme song is Beautiful World by Utada Hikaru and the remix of Fly Me to the Moon. I didn't really like it when I initially heard the new remix when it was first released. However, I had gotten used to it by now and kinda like the jazzy tune but... I still prefer the original version by Hayashibara Megumi! ^^;;

I wanted to include the trailer here but the coding for the embeded object doesn't seems to work. Anyway, go watch the first trailer on Youtube and the third on Memento.

Falling For Autumn Anime

Posted by Shin

newanimeseason_1.jpg

Yep, it's that time again. Come September we will have a new lineup of shows, some highly anticipated, some a big surprise and some better than others. Here are some of the stuff I'd definitely be trying out.

img_main.jpg

Genshiken 2

Finally! I've been praying for a new season of this ever since it finished airing back in 2005. The so called second season that was subsequently announced turned out to be nothing but a spinoff of the anime series featured in the show itself, and the few OVAs released sparingly from time to time could not quench my thirst for this quintessential otaku slice-of-life anime series.

shana2.jpg

Shakugan no Shana 2

Despite being a self professed Rie Kugiyama fan, I've personally never seen this show, despite it being the latter's more popular works >< Hopefully they do a recap of the previous season, but then again, I pretty much know the gist of the story, so I guess it wouldn't matter too much. Just like Rozen Maiden and Nanoha, I actually watched the 2nd season first xD

yua2.jpg

You're Under Arrest ! Full Throttle

This show really brings back memories, as it was among the first few anime I watched when I first got into it, circa 2002. Can't wait to see Miyuki and Natsumi come out from retirement and stop crime in their unique and often humorous manner.

gundam00.jpg

Gundam 00

Despite the travesty that was Gundam SEED Destiny, Sunrise attempts to revive the franchise with yet another installment of their flagship brand under the an entirely new production team(yeah no more F***ing Fukuda), although I'm not sure about bringing in Loveless' character designer(pretty boys overload bleargh)

kojika.jpg

Kodomo no Jikan

You know, despite being lolicon, I've not seen that many loli themed shows, but I'm really excited about this one. Based on the controversial manga of the same name, this series features Kokonoe Rin, a third grader who has a crush on her class teacher. What's so bad, you ask? Let's just say it never made it to the States as originally planned, due to inappropriate content(it's not Hentai) Well, just read the manga to know what the controversy is all about. =)

clannad.jpg

Clannad

No real clue on what this show is about, other than the fact it's based on a visual novel from the same people who brought us Air and Kanon and that it's being animated by Kyoto Animation, which isn't a bad thing. I've neglected harem shows lately, but I guess it's high time to get sucked right back in this fall with Clannad.

That sums up all the notable shows for autumn. although titles like the new Da Capo, Prism Ark, Kimi Kiss and Maple Story(wtf) should be worth taking note as well. Shin out.

Dante-infested entry

Posted by gaiden

Yes, yuu read it right. Dante from Devil May Cry. :D

As most of yuu should know, this series is based off the Playstation 2 game with the same title. I'm not sure whether this is a direct adaptation to the plot or a sequel or prequel as I didn't get to proceed far in the game (I'm lousy in action + adventure game that requires fast reflex) but the characters do.

What attracted me to watch this is simply because it's based on the game. Other supporting reason would be Dante. *lol* :P Nah, I would say it's because it's action genre and a production of Madhouse. Having watched Black Lagoon and Death Note prior to this, I expected the same (or better) quality and outcome from this series. The graphic and artwork did not score below my expectation. Too bad, my pc couldn't support the HQ version thus I couldn't enjoy the maximum quality. :(

Dante sure knows what's coming.

Too much blood for a demon, no?

"Pretty good, Mr. 'Royal Straight Flush'. "

He's quick back to offense after rebound.

Reminds me alot of Revy (Black Lagoon) with her double cutlass.

Strawberry sundae is a must at any shops!

The choreographing (not sure if this is the right word to use; perhaps directing sounds better?) of the opening made my adrenaline pumped a little. Just like any other action series, it often show-off that the protagonist's is the one in control.

The outcome is always predictable - where Dante will be the one standing in the end (that's how it is so far until where I watched, ep. 2).

Basically the show has lots of gunnings (shooting scenes), slashing and blood. However, it's nothing close to gore like Elfen Lied thus yuu don't have to worry about feeling nausea even before yuu reached the ending. But then again, it depends on individual on how much one could tolerate.

Those who played the game should know how she is related to Dante, no?

Bring it on!

Patty was awakened.

Tell me or yuu'll die.

The soprano.

Basically, DMC moves a little fast in pace for me to absorb all the information before moving on the the next scene. A few times, I was pretty confused at certain parts that I have to rewind a back a little and re-watch that part again to understand.

More shots of Dante. X3

Yes, under 18 not allowed.

This scene really makes me melt. Aa~

Dante's long sword (I can't remember what it's called).

Wild sex~xy look~

Have some strawberry sundae for the weekend!

Hot Summer, Lukewarm Shows(?)

Posted by Shin

Unlike the high profile nature of spring, the shows this summer, at first glance doesn't seem to be all that exciting, save a few of them. Let's take a sneak peek at some of the animes Japan has in store for us this July.

Code Geass 24 & 25

Serving as the final episodes for the first season, it'd be interesting to see how they'll end this great show, although I pretty much ruined the excitement for myself by reading magazine spoilers, lawl.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai

One of more interesting shows of last year, we finally get a proper sequel, which incidentally has been giving a higher budget this time around (That probably means we'll see less of those bad(ass) animation during certain scenes. Judging from what I've read, the entire show will be those so-called "solution arcs" that explain the mysteries and dead-ends from the previous season.

Zero no Tsukaima 2: Futatsuki no Kishi

Probably my most anticipated show in summer, for obvious reasons (OH GOD, LOUISE IS HOT!!!11). The second season will feature a slew of new characters that include Louise's sisters, from initial perceptions, another tsundere and a gentile MILF-like character (voiced by Inoue Kikoku of Belldandy fame). Expect more of the same brand of comedy, ecchi and sadomasochism that made the first season so endearing.

School Days

Based on the visual novel of the same name, this is yet another harem/romance/school life/drama anime. However, having said that, you can kind of tell this is pretty neat stuff despite coming from that overcrowded genre. Unlike most harem leads that harbor their true feelings and pick their girl of choice towards the end of the show, our protagonist has already confessed to his dream girl and was accepted (the last time I saw this happening was in Ichigo 100%). Obviously to make the show more interesting, their relationship doesn't go all too well, with the main guy's good friend, who helps him get his girl in the first place also falls for him. What would really be interesting though is whether or not they incorporate any of the bad endings from the game(which made it so popular in the first place, apart from the fact the entire game is animated) into the anime.

Doujin Work

From the acclaimed doujin artist EPIC EXPRESSIONS Hiroyuki comes a hilarious anime based on his latest 4koma work about the life of an upstart female doujinshi artist who wants to make a fortune publishing these fan made mangas. Not much else to talk about this show of great potential(the fact it's so excruciatingly short doesn't help either) other than the fact it gives an abstract view of the doujin scene in Japan and contains much lulz

Well, that pretty much covers the first impressions of the shows for me this season, although I'll be keeping tabs on shows like Umisho, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and Zombie Loan, for watch out for future posts. Shin out.
