Well, not yet anyway. However, you can be sure that Yuuto will be getting the shock of his life once he finds out what that convention has in store for him. Then again, I myself haven’t much of a clue, other than it having lots of PROMOTIONS in doujin form, which is why that informative article by Zepy two months ago that debunks certain myths regarding this biannual otaku event was a real eye opener.

Marred by disinterested participants and crowd coupled with generally poor execution, the annual Taylor’s Anime Fest was a pretty ho-hum affair that paled in comparison with last year’s. Still, it had its moments that made the entire event somewhat memorable, which also saw me taking on a dare that resulted in epic funnies and facepalms.

Note to self: read up on the event before making assumptions and having false expectations. I cannot say I was disappointed because it wasn’t even supposed to be what I had initially thought; a mini version of Wonderfes. Instead, I was greeted with stuff for a totally different sect of nerds, which is why I felt so out of place. Luckily, wolfx and his buddies were there so, I hung out with them while I watched them enthusiastically drone on and on about brands I’ve never even heard of prior to the event.

There are two kinds of anime conventions in Malaysia. First are the poorly executed promotional events by game companies to advertise their lineup of MMOs, with a booth or two selling anime on the side and a cosplay competition set up to draw in the crowd. The other, is a an event organized by fans for fans which encompasses everything otaku related, minus the heavy sponsor presence. Thankfully the event I just attended fell under the latter category, and I have to admit, it’s the damn best local anime convention I’ve ever set foot in. It’s also events such as these that turn the usually timid and reserved me into a raging OVER 9000 weaboo otaku. More after the jump.

In conjunction with the series’ quarter century anniversary, a convention, which was a collaborative effort between the Macross Fans of Malaysia society and the Taylor’s College Anime Society, was held today at the latter’s multi purpose hall.
