Macross Frontier 09: The Fall Of Mikhail Blanc

Well, I hope you enjoyed reading that as much as I enjoyed making them. Took about 3.5 hours to complete the whole thing. Anyway, if you haven’t noticed already, the style of those screenshots were done in a graphic novel style. Why? Because of the “sharpshooter with a dark past” cliche the producers employed which reminded me a lot of Max Payne. If I had a dollar each time they used it, I’d be rolling in dough right now 
. Anyway, this Mikhail-centric episode was a one shot attempt to give some character development to the person in question. While that’s acceptable, it would have been much better if they had integrated it with the main plot and fleshed it out a little more. Oh well. Nice to know Mikhail and Klan are childhood friends(duh), and it was especially adorable seeing loli Klan, whom is still 10x the size of shouta Mikhail playing together, which made me go awww 
Sheryl and Ranka both didn’t get much screentime as expected, though I have to point something out:
Now, if you’re going to be dressing in a one piece handing out tissue paper to promote yourself, you do not do so at Shibuya, or least that’s what I gathered with that 199 building in the background, which was a homage to the Shibuya 109 building. Anyway that’s where all the cool kids hang out, and being the moe moe character that she is, Ranka would have gotten more attention at Frontier’s equivalent to Akihabara. If he wasn’t the only willing person to do so, I would have strangled Ranka’s manager for his dumb idea. Even GARby proposed a much better plan, which was to use the internet, just as what Shoko-tan did to help propel herself to fame, though apparently each time the manager tried, the site was DDOS’ed. Hmm.

Dear me, that was nostalgic. I always figured Michael was Frontier’s effete version of Duke Togo, but seeing this episode rendered Payne-style was hilarious.

Nice photoshopping. Granted, the cliches work great for Max Payne-style parody, but still. Mikhail really IS a bit of a siscon, isn’t he? With an onee-sama fixation, which explains his choices in dating….

I really thought this episode had WAY too much angst, so your noir-comic parody was 100% right on the money.

I don’t see the Ranka action happening, for all you shippers out there. Brera and Ranka, as possibly incestuous as that may be, are more likely to occur, at least if there’s to be any romantic development on THAT front.

That comic… is epic. I love the art and how you shortened nearly 1/2 hours of antagonizing into a few pages.
