ImageShack, the ever popular image hosting site are now extending their services beyond that by offering a new feature called ImageShack Torrent, which allows users to upload a torrent file or use a link from torrent search, where the server will then download the torrent to your ImageShack account. Sounds too good to be true?
Well, to begin with, I was skeptical about the entire thing even after reading on the announcement about a week ago, though it wasn’t working at that point in time. After a heads up from an associate, it seems the service was fully functional at the time of this post, so I gave it another shot.
First off, you’re going to need your own account, where you will then have to proceed to the this page.
Upload the desired torrent file or paste the link in the space provided like so:
Click on start and off you go! After refreshing the pages for a couple of times, one of the downloads was done, and to my surprise, it actually worked:
My reaction?
The service’s still in beta, and apart from the measly 10gb bandwidth limit, the only other downside I can foresee for the time being are the possible legal implications involved. Still, it’s a fun and convenient service to have around, especially for those who are unable to torrent, so go ahead and abuse it while you still can. As for me, I’ll stick to the traditional means for fears that the party v& might one day come knocking at my door. You can read the full article and feedback here. Thoughts?

So can this be used to help seed without draining your actual bandwidth? Aside from the legal implications, this could be a great boon.

@Kabitzin: It doesn’t help with seeding. If anything, it will hurt the torrent. If I had to guess, I’d say they close the connection after the downloading is finished and the file will be deleted after a week or so.
I read about this a couple of days ago. It’s a good idea for those who their provider puts a cap on their bandwidth. There are two downsides though:
One, they know what you’re downloading.
And two, it will hurt the seeding.

lol using Imageshack’s server’s to torrent? For some reason that seems REALLY uneconomical for them. Oh right, because it is. xD

I’m not sure if I’d ever use them…I guess I’ll wait and see what other users say. The bandwidth cap sounds nice though, at least in terms of their perspective. It may help weed out illegal torrents from legal ones.
