I got bored of waiting for BSS to release Spice and Wolf so I figured I’d make that image representing my initial perception of this awesome show. Not going to go in depth on the summary but it’s basically about this delivery person from the afterlife that passes letters from dead people to the living.

No Setsuna, I am the Gundam. And so, Fumika became a Gundam.

As you can see from the What I Expected column and taking into account the description I gave so far, I was thinking that this was going to be some Jigoku Shoujo-esque anime, but only dealing with mail from the deceased of course. After watching the first two episodes, my conclusion was not far off, as Fumika, the lead character in question, doesn’t display much emotion(so far), just like Ai-chan. Still, it’s actually fun watching her, if only because she’s voiced by Ueda Kana(no sexy Kansai accent here though) as well as her talking staff. Did I mention Fumika also brandishes a mean looking hardballer? Also, the only thing preventing Kanaka(the staff) from being really awesome is that she doesn’t speak Engrish or fire a massive energy blast. Then again, this is not a magical girl show and for the most part, Kanaka’s got more personality and is funnier as opposed to Raising Heart.

Product placement? In my anime?

The plot’s great and the episodic short story format makes it easy to follow, as each week, a new theme is explored, from sexual abuse to suicides. Pretty grim, yes, but it allows room for good storytelling, which in turn makes Shigofumi one of the best shows this winter has to offer. Gotta love the great OP theme too, as it’s done by Ali Project, although it doesn’t seem to fit well with this kind of show, but whatever. Shin out.

I thought you were already watching this, lawl.

Anyway, it’s nice to see our situations reversed for once, now I feel less (albeit very slightly) guilty about your material being on Are-are.
