The iDOLM@STER 23: Goodnight Sweet Prince

RIP Broducer 19xx - 2011

I need to apologise to Haruka on what I said about her not getting any jobs whatsoever. After this episode, I am convinced that Haruka genuinely likes being together with everyone more than being popular. She did everything she could to show up at every rehearsal for the New Year's Live (a pretty big deal by the way); Rescheduling all her jobs so that she could be done by the end of the day, even if meant pushing her nubile, young body to its limits. However it would seem like her efforts were for naught, as Chihaya goes to America (even though this is not her route) to work under Simon Cowell while everyone starts missing practice. To top it all off, Namassuka?! gets cancelled because their conflicting schedules finally got the in the way meaning that the only time everyone will be together no longer exists.

I am usually partial towards Miki's straightforwardness, although I will be the first to admit that she may have gone a bit too far this time. Still, Haruka probably needed her shit slapped for missing the bigger picture on what being an idol really entailed. Haruka seems to have deluded herself into thinking that she is part of something equivalent to an after school tea time club, where its members masquerade as musicians  She needs to understand that she is in the major league now, where one has to be at the top of their game at all times, lest they be replaced by shit tier idols that at least know how to market themselves like AKB48. That said, it is unfortunate that she has to be reminded of this fact in the harshest of circumstances.

Miki's NTR finally took its toll and you can almost spot the exact moment Haruka lost it. The best part about Haruka's soulless expression is that it is exactly what it would look like if you had just raped her. Just imagine sliding your ponos into her teenage vagoo in one unforgiving stroke, tearing her hymen and stretching her walls to its limit.  After you arrive inside and leave, all she can do is quietly sob at how powerless she was, having her innocence taken away so suddenly. Haruka is damaged for life, and when asked what happened by the Producer, all she can say is "It's nothing at all."

Haha, of course he's not dead... Right? Please don't die, Broducer. After the demise of 765's first P-san, I don't think my heart can take another emotional arrow to the knee  A-1 certainly has picked up a thing or two on the art of trolling from the Gainax staff they have onboard. With Broducer having avoided the one and only 'death' flag in Miki's route, no one took the seiyuus' spoilers in the weekly preview seriously about Broducer being 'absent' from episode 24. Masterful execution from the writers, using smoke and mirrors to drop this bombshell on us. As Kuroi would have spelt it on his scrabble board, C-H-E-C-K-M-A-T-E

P.S Next week's director will the same one from episode 20, who incidentally did Clannad After Story episode 18 as well. Prepare your lacrimal glands.

  1. “P.S Next week’s director will the same one from episode 20″
    My body is lady.

    Awesome blog.

  2. Oh god Haruka’s tears are so delicious~ And dad, I cannot handle imagining her getting her innocence taken, it’s too much for my excitement!

I agree with Miki this one time, mostly because yeah Haruka, you’re a freaking idol sweety, this isn’t the best working field to go into if you just wanna get along with everyone (now that I think about it few working fields are good for that).

Hey! What was that stab about an after school tea time! Mai waifu belongs to one of those and…!!! ………yeah they suck lol

You know what’d be a real twist? if Touma found out Broducer was in the hospital and came to visit all worried and flustered like the cute tsundere he is. HHNNNNNGGG.jpg

  3. You can trace Haruka’s dilemma all the way back to their beach trip in ep. 5. And while she succeeds in the Christmas Party episode to gather everyone together, she realizes she can’t have it her way all the time.

Oh that expression in Miki’s face in the ED hospital shot, both of sadness and of anger. As if she wasn’t already rude to Haruka in her comment this episode, you can like imagine a very simple “It’s your fault!” line from Miki destroy Haruka completely. See how red Haruka’s eyes are in the preview. Delicious tears next week!

    • I like how they are trying to set Miki up as the antagonist here, when she’s anything but. She’s remaining in character although this time around Haruka’s mental state was already at breaking point and everything pretty much just spiraled out of control, though I’m still waiting on Harukafags to voice out their opinion on the matter.

Chihaya for all her faults was a better rival, since she would have simply rose to Miki’s challenge.

  4. Haruka fags are too heartbroken to comment.

  5. Haruka is my favourite idol by far, I fell in love with her when I saw my first idolm@ster youtube vid a while back. My heart and soul were crushed to see her lose her smile and confidence. But alas, that was needed for meaningful character development and I am sure Mikifags are eager to lick those delicious salty tears off her tear-ridden face. It’s cruel, but other idols have been mocked also, especially Hibiki as she still hasn’t got her episode yet.

As for Miki, I understood what she said. It’s a competition, no holding back. She just worded it really, really badly. Typical Miki I guess. Talented, but tactless and selfish. Also that hijack when Haruka was about to pour her heart out to BROducer-san was uncalled for. I would’ve reached into the monitor and slapped that bitch if the technology had existed. Why you interrupt my precious P-san X Haruka moments? Haven’t you hijacked enough im@s episodes? And if you dare blame poor heartbroken Haruka for P-san’s unfortunate accident, I’m going to drop the anime on the spot.

And the episode overall beside the retarded Miki appearances was pretty good. Why has no one mentioned Yukiho’s Little Match Girl? It was awesome. Animation was very good. Song was awesome. And that hug by Makoto and Yukiho was awesome. On that note, Chihaya, why you no hug? Why you let Mami NTR Haruka from you? Why do we have to wait until the final episode for that hug?

    • You are surprisingly calm and rational for a Harukafag. Other places I’ve seen Mikifags and Harukafags are flaming each other to kingdom come ww

I wanted to mention about Yukiho too, but decided against it for some reason. But you’re right, she really has come a long way since her episode. Even while spending most of the time of the background, you can sense that she has developed and matured throughout the couple of months. Her moment in this episode was sweet, so it was unfortunate that it had to be overshadowed by so much drama. If only they did it earlier…

I don’t even know if they’re planning on showing that OTP hug, and I would imagine heads will roll if it doesn’t materalise.

  6. > Haruka genuinely likes being together with everyone more than being popular.

This is probably all there is to say for Haruka support. Or she was expecting them to become popular as a group (as the 765pro AllStars) rather than all having individual careers. In the grand scheme, I don’t think it’s too unreasonable if she just wants one or two things together — because that’s how they became successful in the first place (sans Ryuuguu Komachi, I guess). The New Year’s Live is actually job-related unlike the Christmas party. I can only assume that, at their current skill level, they can practice the dances on their own and then come together just the day before the concert and do dress rehearsals as a group a few times to work out any last kinks — rather than have to do it as a group constantly like with their very first live. Haruka just doesn’t want everyone to forget their origins; what does all this fame and money mean if you end up losing your friendships in the long run?

I feel very bad for Namassuka Sunday to get cancelled, and it shows the reality of the whole idol-jimusho business. Broducer and co. ought to be able to refuse offers and have their own agency policies (“Sorry, Sundays are for our idols to be together.”) but this isn’t the case in Japan… So this would be where idealistic Haruka would need to grow up just a little and realize this is the inevitable sacrifice for an idol’s career.

bluemist has a good point about episode 5. I just rewatched it, and nobody had an answer to Haruka’s remark about how they wouldn’t be able to go on beach vacations like this anymore if they become that popular. Iori brushed it off, saying it’s something to think about when they actually get there. They’re here now, but there are still no easy answers. …And Miki was already NTR-ing Haruka in this episode, I realize. Haruka tried to feed Broducer some meat during the barbecue, and Miki dives in and eats it off Haruka’s chopsticks.

Sucks for Miki to be portrayed as the antagonist, but I think it’s because she has ties with Broducer as well. Haruka’s got the next biggest crush on him, I’d say (or is at least the most appreciative of what he’s done for the agency), so here she is, battling not only to keep the girls all together but also for Broducer’s attention. My friends and I are hoping for a Toradora!-style bitchfight in ep24, but maybe that won’t happen. :swt: I agree that Miki herself is just taking care of her own business. Could she be more tactful? Sure. But then she wouldn’t be be our Mikimiki.

Haruka’s other half is on the other half of the world and can’t hold her. Maybe Chihaya will offer some Skype lovin’ to make up for it? :<

    • >Chihaya
      >Skype

      Pick one.

    • As I’ve mentioned in my introductory posts, 765 mirrors real life idol group Morning Musume a lot, and the way they dealed with the whole danketsu issue was that nobody ever veered too far from the core group, because of the shit that would happen like you see now.

They were always in pairs and trios almost all the time, subsequently swapped around to form new units, so danketsu was always optimal. Right now 765 seems to give off the feeling that they’re basically individual artists from the same label, something which Haruka didn’t foresee, as you said.

It’s funny because they also had a Sunday show, but because Morning Musume’s agency was god-tier at that time, TV execs were licking their feet instead and played by their rules

  7. Man, I thought you made the PS editing for the screencaps but it is from 2chan and 4chan. I feel like a kid discovering the inexistence of Santa. Another part of my innocence gone.

“Haruka seems to have deluded herself into thinking that she is part of something equivalent to an after school tea time club, where its members masquerade as musicians

I cringed when Miki hijacked Haruka´s talk with the Bro (that could have helped Haruka a lot). Miki has no ill will but can hurt a lot without knowing and she really needs to read the mood. I hope she does not start a “It´s your fault” on Haruka. :???:

By the way, did I made up your Charlie Shin nickname? or it was just a coincidence?

  8. She killed broducer!!!

  9. I had thought this series was taking place in 2011, but the calendar in Haruka’s room suggests differently. The two closest years where December 1 is a Tuesday are 2009 and 2015. Dec 24, episode 22, was a Thursday. Namassuka Sunday’s final show is Sunday, December 27, which I guess is a fitting time to cancel it if you were planning to do so. This leads to the accident occuring on Tuesday Dec 29. And the new year’s show is supposed to be on Jan 1?

I’m probably analyzing this too hard, lol. I don’t know if the first half of this episode can take place just on Dec 25 and Dec 26. It was a rather quiet and snow-less Christmas Day if so, despite it looking like a white Christmas on Dec 24.

Anyhow, that’s a short timeframe for Haruka to get so depressed and things crashing down. Maybe it has been going on in bits and pieces throughout Nov and Dec. The Christmas party was a nice moment, but I guess it was small in the greater scheme, like the one supportive and optimistic talk you get with an alcohol addict, but they’re still back at the bar every other day.

If Chihaya rushes home, it’s still at least 12 hours for that flight. Can our idols make it???

  10. Haruka, noooooo! Someone make her stop crying!

Much like the Miki/Haruka fans going at each other’s throats, there’s probably going to be conflict in the next episode between the two girls. Thursday’s never been so far away.

Thanks for writing this article, it was definitely…a special use of sexual analogies.
