The iDOLM@STER 15: Fan Servicing
I have pretty much run out of ways to describe how much I love an episode, but damn do I love this episode. Then again, that has been my sentiment from the very beginning, although I have only begun to sort of realise how this show can be so consistently good. It is no secret that part and parcel of iDOLM@STER's quality is due to the financial backing of Scamco, which allows for big name sakuga animators to come on board. While it has done wonders for this show, what makes it that much more special is that the people working on it behind the scenes are big fans themselves.
Best example I can give is of course this episode's storyboard, which was handled by Imaishi Hiroyuki, who has worked on, among other things, Gurren Lagann. While there is a certain scene this week which would have given it away anyway, the amount of iDOLM@STER-related memes that where slot in is pretty much proof that he is one hell of a fanboy. As a casual, I have only actually recognised one or two, but it's safe to say that if you are among the legion of fans he was pandering to, you would probably have had creamed your pants several times over. So if you were wondering why Chihaya went totally out of character by laughing out loud like that, you now know that it was referencing the net show that Imai Asami and Nakamura Eriko hosts:
I'm guessing those moments where she was snickering was also referencing a particular episode, but unfortunately my power level is nowhere high enough to actually know which
Probably the most significant reference was the one made in tribute to Her Excellency, Haruka or otherwise known among the fandom as Harukakka. How significant you ask? This was Japan's reaction when she first showed up:

It's hard for a non-Haruka fan like me to appreciate something like that, but you can sort of imagine the amount of bricks being shat not only to her appearance, but also to that movie trailer our girls were starring in.

Good to know that Imaishi hasn't lost his touch since working on his last robot show, one-upping Sunrise's attempt along the way. It's not that idols and robots don't mix, but if you throw all their original personalties out of the window, well, you'll end up with Xenoglossia. Heck I would even consider getting the BD if it meant that an extended version would be included
What else? We had Magical Girl Makko Makori~n, Yukiho cured of her androphobia, and Lady Taka's trippy visit to the ramen shop. Yeah, whoever said fanservice had to be pantyshots and tits eh?

Making poor Hibiki run in the rain! ON HER BERFDAY!
I also spend large chunks of time replaying the parts where the girls look at the camera and say “Namassuka?”

This week will be ronery Hibiki

I thought Chihaya’s feelings for Yayoi were just pure fan–teasing but she blushed while stating that Yayoi was “adorable”.
Someone asked for a Hibiki themed episode?
October 18th, 2011 - 09:43
Her seiyuu is actually a fan of Yayoi www

When that TTGL parody came out, I thought I had too much weed while watching the episode @_@
I developed the strangest metaphorical boner by watching Makoto display her reverse trap powers onto the innocent viewers (aka me) and I fervently wished she wasn’t a girl and had a dick, which is unusual since I don’t fall for reverse traps most of the time (unlike traps which I go hhhnnnnnngggg for).
I want more Harukakka (preferably yandere type, less evil ojou-sama type)

There will be another Gainax person doing Makoto’s episode, so look forward to that. Makoto is awesome because Makoto can be anything your heart desires, although it would seem nobody cares for girly Makoto
When Harukakka was first conceived by the fans, she was a yandere type character since it was just to complement the ‘other’ side of Haruka. After she was fleshed out as a standalone character, she is the oujo-sama you see in the trailer.

Yukiho redeemed herself to me in that segment, she’s very fun especially at their last scene where her eyes went kira-kira for Makoto boys-mode.
Sadly I’m not part of the IM@S memes crowd, but it’s kinda awesome for them to acknowledge the fandom that way. And this episode was totally enjoyable even without knowing those memes. I hope at least they’ll do a reference with the few ones I know, like the creepy Haruka from Playstation Home.

They’ve inserted quite a few prior to this, such as Nonowa, but yeah, Playstation Home Haruka would be great.
Pretty nice to know that Yukiho can be so much fun on screen when she wants to.

I want Harukakka to dominate me!
orz orz orz

So much better than the original

Besides the obvious memes, I loved the brief moments were Miki was openly flirting with BROducer.
October 18th, 2011 - 09:29
I thought she was just being playful at first, but Miki really really wants to fuck.
October 17th, 2011 - 07:06
Poor Hibiki. :( Where’s that Hibiki ep already…it’ll probably never come to light.
And LOL @ the video. Nice catch.
October 18th, 2011 - 09:27
I think it’s pretty much confirmed it will be Hibiki’s turn this week

@Shin – They worked Nonowa in there in a past episode?
How (and when) did I miss that?
October 22nd, 2011 - 02:05
Watch Yayoi’s episode again and pay attention to when they were at her house
