Goddamn Ayase haters branding her as a lesbian yandere thinking they know what it means. Look, before you go ranting on about how mai-waifu-Ayase-do-not-claim is a worthless bitch of a friend, there are a number of things that you should be aware of.
First and foremost, Ayase's reaction to finding out that Kirino is an otaku is treachery of the highest degree and is equivalent to:
Protagonists discovering their mentor was never on their side in the first place and has been using them as pawns in their own agenda, contradicting the hero’s beliefs, or even believers of the latter who realise that their champions were deceiving them with a facade the whole time.
Or when Shinichiro picked Hiromi over Noe.
You get the idea.
Haters, before you go running your mouth off, you might want to consider broadening your horizons on believable human relationships, through other forms of media that are not *gasp* anime or manga. I swear, people like you who have the distinction of having School Days as their first harem anime subscribe to the insipid notion that every single goddamn title that so much touches on or even hints at being harem will indubitably lead to a Nice Boat ending.
Has the term "All bark, no bite" ever crossed the minds of you overly excited people?
You people have never once gotten angry enough at someone, stranger or otherwise, to threaten to kill them or beat the living daylights out of them? Never once got so riled up before on Xbox Live playing Modern Warfare 2 when that twelve year old scrub with Marathon, Lightweight and Commando killed you for the umpteenth time with the tactical knife? And so on? Yeah, you spout things like out of rage that but you would never actually do it.
Ayase never does anything comparable to a stalker or yandere. Hell, I have even been told that nowhere near does she ever get close to a kitchen knife in the light novels. The worst she ever does in this episode was block Kyousuke's mobile phone number, nothing more. GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULLS; THIS ISN'T SOME HORROR STORY WHERE MURDER IS PIVOTAL TO THE PLOT.
And don’t get me started on you yurifags; You are equally just as guilty. If you had bothered to remove those goggles for a moment and took a gander at a stereotypical American feature film that depicts a highly fantasised view of high school life and the cliques that populate them such as the Popular Kids, you might be less inclined to see Ayase as a yandere or god forbid, a lesbian.
Furthermore, the Queen Bees in these movies usually have female followers or members of their clique trying to imitate the former in as many ways as possible, be it similar hairstyle, fashion sense and likes/dislikes, etc. Why, you ask? Because since their "Queen" is supposedly the paragon of perfection, if they can become more and more like her, they can feel just as "perfect" too.
While Kirino may not be the school's Queen (as anime/manga usually use the term Idol instead); to her model friends like (especially) Ayase , she is the Queen they all aspire to become. Perfect grades. Perfect looks. Perfect work ethic. Perfect everything. Who WOULDN'T want to be her?
I mean, why else would Ayase vehemently hate on disgusting otakus yet allow herself to be featured in teen gravure magazines, which in Japan, are catered just as much to paedophiles (most of whom are otaku) who use it as masturbation aid? That is because she wishes to be like Kirino in every way possible no matter what the cost.
tl;dr
Ayase is NOT yandere for Kirino.
Just someone who has idealised her too much to the point that she refuses to believe she has a flaw in her character. She tells Kyousuke to back off from "corrupting" Kirino indirectly/directly, but she is not diligent enough to continue "protecting" Kirino. In fact, she does not even bother to keep tabs on her best friend nor does anything resembling a clingy, jealous girlfriend afraid her lover might be cheating on her.
Ayase is NOT yuri for Kirino.
Just someone who admires her too much and in no way does she want to fuck (with a strap-on) Kirino too.
Seriously, stop talking shit about mai waifu you faggots. I guess what they say about people like yourselves are true after all - those who watch too much anime and play too much imouto-themed nukige will eventually have their minds broken and lose their humanity

I say: “Don´t hate the character, hate the makers of the anime, who makes you hating the character.”
If some character uses “Uso” more than three times in a sentence the rule of thumb says, she has lost her mind.
Ayase was portraited in a terrible way in this episode, different than Kyousuke´s father she never made the impression to be nothing more than someone who parrots the bad research done by some medias.
I did some research on her character now (i.e. looking over the illustrations of Light Novel) and, yeah, it seems she mellows down.
