Autumn Quicklooks: Kämpfer; Kobato; Nyan Koi

Kämpfer
If anything, this show is unique in a sense that it can switch genres on the go, being either a generic harem anime on one hand or a cookie cutter yuri anime on the other. Now, don't misunderstand. I've nothing against Kämpfer, and in fact I applaud the whole genderbender theme, since, despite Natsuru's disappointingly well-endowed physique, it's always fun to watch a guy adapt to anatomical changes that a mere trap does not have to contend with. However, this brings about the pertinent question: If I were to have vaginal intercourse with Natsuru, what will become of my penis should he revert to his male self? Thought provoking queries aside, the only other reason I could see myself staying on would be solely for Nakajima Megumi's character, though it aches my heart to see her voice a minor character, and a lesbian, no less.

Kobato
Help! I just found out angels in the CLAMP universe are genderless, so does that mean I have nowhere to j-j-jam it in Kobato when I make her mai waifu?
Ahem. The last CLAMP series I ever associated myself with was Cardcaptor Sakura and that was a good decade ago. This probably explains why I am unable able to pin this show down to a similar series, though in retrospect, I'm venturing outside my comfort zone of genres by watching this. You could argue that I'm only in it for the ℳℴℯ❤ and while I cannot outright deny it, I personally believe that there's more in store for me than just fluff; like rediscovering the innocence I once had before becoming an unrepentant lolicon
It is for this very reason that Dobato intrigues me as a character, being a total opposite of what I am as a person, sincere and untainted by depravities of the world(she's not from earth, so I assume she's from Gensokyo(funny hat and all), and was evicted for some unknown reason)

Nyan Koi
While this turned out completely different from what I had initially expected, given the somewhat titillating opening sequence, I was pleasantly surprised towards the end of the first episode. I genuinely enjoyed the humour and they're not of the referential strain that seem to plague a lot of shows these days. The addition of talking cats seem tacked on at first (or a selling point for some), but Tama and Nyamsus stole the show(even if I'm not particularly fond of Jun Fukuyama's passive voice), providing a breath of fresh air to this otherwise above average romantic comedy. The hero's nothing to write home about though the female lead does remind me of Seto no Hanayome's Seto San in terms of personality, but that distinctively shrill voice makes it hard to shake off that Index feeling, which can get grating
That said, the fact I am still positive about this anime would mean that I have taken a keen interest in a particular character, or in this case, characters. Twin tailed twin lolis. Typing that phrase alone gave me a hard on, given the fact I have this image permanently burned into my skull. Unfortunately they seem to be resigned to supporting roles, which means I'm going to have to look to the story more than anything else to keep me interested

omg you used a pic of Winry! (the cat) xDDDD

regarding kobato uh…I guess that explains why she was so flat chested….kinda reminds me of Nakuru from CCS. It was an…it. hahaha

Kampfer I’m considering keeping on just so I can laugh at it……although saying that I’ll probably get bored after 3 episodes
Kobato. I know I’ll end up watching despite my allergy to moe, simply because its CLAMP – I’m a CLAMP fangirl, tis the artwork
and Nyan Koi! I may watch simply because it has Jun Fukuyama voicing a neko

After watching 1 ep of both Kampfer and Nyan-koi I find both of them boring and unimaginative and that goes for most of the newcomers this month.
Recently eroge has much better scripts / characters / music than anime.
And yet they only serialize comedy harem games instead of something more serious.
On a side note just in case someone is wondering the manga page with the twins mentioned above is from Cheerism (チアリズム) by ED : ISBN 978-4-86252-556-7

@Devocalypse – I agree about Kampfer, but Nyan Koi as well? Then again, I could be already biased through watching the opening sequence. Ditto on the visual novels thing, you’d think that with an existing storyline, they could just adapt it like they do with the romance ones. I’m amazed by your source-sniffing prowess
@Caraniel – Yeah, out of the three, I can see myself sticking to Kobato in the long run. I’ll see how Nyan Koi goes once the twin tailed twin lolis show up
@Hinano – My personal favourite of all the cats you posted
I guess that makes it okay for me to love Kobato since I can’t go beyond that…

You might just lose your penis.

Devocalypse gave the sauce.

@Panther – But Index here isn’t anywhere as grating!
@Mika – Heh, I think the more logical explanation would be that it gets pushed out as Natsuru’s vagina inverts. That or we become conjoined.
@Seinime – I can’t be the only person who thought of that during the transformation sequences.
@foshizzel – Okay, the nod to magical girl shows everywhere was a nice touch, and I really want to like this, but if it’s going to be Sekirei all over again…
@usagijen – Your lack of faith in me speaks volumes as to how deep down the pits I’m in at the moment
October 11th, 2009
So.. would you be suggesting that Kobato might be stealing your precious thing? :p
October 11th, 2009
I liked the conjoined theory.
October 11th, 2009
Kampfer is less appetizing name. Germans again?
October 12th, 2009
Regarding Kobato’s gender, we all know that you would have jammed it into her regardless of gender.
I never thought that there was any shred of innocence left in you to be rediscovered Shin.
October 12th, 2009
Wait.. You were innocent once?
That said, these are some good reviews, Shin.
‘Tis been a while since I watched a CLAMP anime.
October 13th, 2009
I found Nyan Koi rather disappointing… but maybe it will get better…?
October 16th, 2009
i once woke up and had a vagina.

I liked the quick impression on Kobato. Anyway, genderless does not mean no place to put it. ^ ^
