Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen

Went to watch Transformers 2 today with some of my friends. Spoilers and some thoughts on it after the break.

I never really liked the first Transformers movie. In my opinion it had too much of humans in it and too little of mecha action. So, I could safely say that I went to the cinema to watch the sequel of it with many doubts. I am however, glad to say that I came out a much more satisfied person compared to when I went in.

So, what does this second movie has going for it? The plot is your standard cut and paste storyline, the characters are somewhat stereotypical, and to top it off Megan Fox gets way too much screen time to show off her less than alluring looks. However, it is a mecha movie and much to my delight the director seems to have remembered that and gave us a significantly increased amount of mecha action than I remembered in the last movie.

One sword good. Two swords BETTER.
In my opinion there aren't many mechas out there that are more awesome than Optimus Prime. He is, after all a transforming TRUCK powered by GAR (and is a better savior than Jesus). The scene where he took on Megatron, Starscream, and another Decepticon whose name I forgot to save Sam was made up of pure awesome. Imagine this, FOUR mechas churning shit up in a forest, uprooting trees and blowing them apart as they fight with bullets and missiles flying in ever conceivable direction. THEN Optimus Prime kicks things up to another level altogether when he whipped out TWO swords and goes completely berserk on the Decepticon trio, turning the brawl into a whirling storm of pure metallic death. To top it off, he does all of the above while berating the Decepticons and referring to them as scrap metal. Sheer class.

Almost all of the fight scenes between the Autobots and Decepticons were great except for the final climatic battle with The Fallen. It kind of felt like it ended way too quickly with The Fallen and Megatron getting their collective metal asses kicked by Optimus Prime in a couple or so minutes. Other than that it is safe to say that this is one movie I will be glad to go back to the cinema to rewatch for maybe half a dozen times.

Oh, and what of the humans in the movie? Lets just say that all they are good for is getting tased for the sake of hilarity.

About Setsuna-san

I don't have much to say about myself. Well, for one i started watching anime back in my secondary school years but i have only begun to delve deeper into it during the past couple of years. I am also an amateur photographer.

  1. Apparently the producers made a mistake during the Megatron’s revival scene.
5 decepticons went down into the sea
1 was torn up to revival megatron
6 came up from the depths of the sea.

    You do the Math…

Oh yes, the 3-on-1 battle was GAR. Optimus Prime’s Twin blades owned pretty much everything.
What shocked me was when USA revealed their battleship ‘Railgun’.

  2. Optimus was most definitely the mecha equivalent of Archer in it.

Definitely a step up from the first.

  3. That forest battle was good. The final scene just bombed the experience. Too much dramatic slow-downs and why the parents? The Decepticons seemed too easy to take down.

  4. SPOILERS: Optimus Prime didn’t die, but Michael Jackson did.

  5. @Hangmen: LOL. Good one.

Hey, I’ve already did spoilers shit on this one.

  6. Not nearly as bad as people say. Yes it’s long, so was “Dark Knight”. if you liked the first, you’ll love this. It’s the perfect summer blockbuster, and that’s all it’s trying to be.

  7. I have never been this gay for a robot before.

  8. There were some audio fuckups and the focus of the projector was way off at the cinema I watched it, shitsux. Well, I have better image and sound quality at home, so:

    BD here I come.

  9. @Yyi – Wow. I didn’t realise the mistake until you pointed it out… :???:

@Heero Yuy – So as I pray. Unlimited Blade Works.

@FFVIIKnight – The decepticons should have just killed the parents so that more screentime could be dedicated to Optimus Prime.

@Hangmen – its a pity Michael Jackson couldn’t die in the embrace of the little children whom he loved so much.

@runescape gold – People should learn to switch their brain off when wathing summer blockbusters.

    @Kaisos – Everyone’s gay for Optimus Prime.

  10. I went in expecting mecha, and it delivered. Worth the ticket I spent on.

Though yes, like what you guys said, less humans: the parents were redundant and the fight with The Fallen could have been longer.

    Lehq’s last blog post..[manga] No longer M.I.A

  11. Fallen was literally bitch-slapped by Optimus Prime. Yeah, the fight scene could’ve been longer.

  12. Best Ever Show!!!

  13. The first movie was beyond awful (particularly the unintentionally campy Bumblebee “death” scene). I’m surprised so many people spent good money to see the second Michael Bay trainwreck.

  14. So glad to see someone enjoyed the movie for what is was and not ripping on it for not being something it was never meant to be.

You go to this movie to just drool over how KICK ASS Prime and the other Transformers look. I don’t expect a masterful story from this.

I wanted big huge robots beating the ever loving crap out of each other and that’s what I got. I totally enjoyed the hell out of this.

  15. Actually, the “mistake” pointed out at Megatron’s revival scene didnt happen, the guy torn apart was a piece of one of the bigger ones, like that satelite guy that sent the tiger, or Blackout that can detach a scorpion from his back.
