The Year That Was

Posted by: Shin

Crippled internets and an ISP hellbent on torturing its customers. The new year started off on a slightly sour note for me, as I impose self exile to go about other things that needed to be taken care of, like backlogs and unfinished games, for instance. Here is the long overdue list of things that has left an impression on me over the course of thelast year, which by the way is not limited only to anime, reason being this was a good opportunity for me to touch on topics that I otherwise would not, as well as to reminiscent on some of my favorite posts.

Clannad - The Kyou's Route That Never Was

Complete darkness. Somewhere in front of me, Kyou was breathing rather heavily. Before my eyes could adjust to the light, all I could focus on was the rhythmic sound of her exhalation. Although she just got out of gym class, it was hard to mistake her breathing for exhaustion. Every cascade of air that escaped her open mouth was heavily laced with lust. I imagined her ample chest rising and falling with each excited breath, her quivering thighs shaking in anticipation. Pretty soon I started to breathe pretty hard, too.

Well, but seriously now. I just closed the door and you’re already like this?

Of course, I didn’t tell her that. She’d get mad at me pretty quickly if I did. That part of her is attractive too, but what I want right now is the Kyou that’s standing before me. The Kyou that hastily slid her bloomers away before I could even say anything. The Kyou that bent over hungrily before I could even do anything.

After all, I am a boy. I really am interested in these things.

I liberated myself from my pants and leaned forward to feel her with my hands. She shivered at the touch, and I found her breathing a little faster than before. The upper end of her thigh-highs were soaking wet. I felt the way her juices trickled from her inner thighs across my fingers, and the way her legs quivered whenever she felt me near her opening. My fingers, still glistening with her wetness, traced the contours of her exposed ass. It was very enticing, the way it angled upwards from above the lip of her silky smooth stockings. It angled towards me. It was like a flower that bloomed only for me.... :roll:

Ranka Lee - (ノゝ∀・)~キラ☆

Otherwise known as how I came to love Ranka even more and nearly died. Proof that too much ℳℴℯ❤ can be bad for you, I went into a fit of epileptic seizure that left me incapacitated for the duration of the episode in which it first shown. Shortly after I recovered, I knew I had to try it for myself, much to the chagrin of everyone who scrolled to the bottom.

Eyeshield 21 - 00:00:00

Who knew, that a non manga-reader such as myself would be a fan of a series featuring a sport I have no interest in, which to date, remains the only title that I have diligently followed for the past 3 years. 300 chapters later, the misfits of the Deimon Devilbats have finally attained gold by beating the once invincible team of Japanese high school American football players. Victory was sealed by the founding members, in a desperate final play which saw a single field goal kick that carried the hopes and dreams of 11 players, soaring into the sky past the defense of the opposing team. The real kicker? It was all accomplished within 0 seconds.

Suzumiya Haruki no Seitenkan - Freudian Funtime

Cashing in on the whole Haruhi genderbending craze at its peak, came one of my all time favorite posts, which also saw it becoming my most well received one to date. This pseudo fan fiction attempt and also a pitch to Kyoto Animation wasn't so much as a product of my adoration towards the series in question, but rather a testament to my perverse fantasies. Openly admitting to liking Kyon and Itsuki(especially Itsuki) at that point in time would have raised a few eyebrows, but their female equivalents would have made it fine, where adoration towards male Haruhi was also acceptable, because of his nature. Of course, as time went by, I eventually ceased being self conscious and came out of the closet to embrace whatever that took my fancy, transcending all gender restrictions, although that's another story.

I took pride in knowing there were others like me who shared the same kind of enthusiasm, although not necessarily due to the same reasons. This eventually paved the way to alternate takes on the source material by members of the Animesuki forums and even self produced merchandise. With Kyonko's ineligibility for SaiMoe and the loss of interest in the rewritings, the fad, as it has always been, died down. The genderbending spirit is strong with other anime, but would probably never to be of the same magnitude, with only the producers of the original series having the power to change all that. *Hint* *Hint* :roll:

Code Geass R2 - Of Memes And Trainwrecks

There will probably never be another series like this ever again. As mentioned in my previous post, there are a countless number of reasons as to why I enjoyed Code Geass; From a viewer's perspective, while it was not the best show of the year, Code Geass was easily the show of the 2008, as it managed to invoke reactions from both fans and critics alike, with its over the top nature that made it one of the most talked about show among the community.

As fun as it was for me to watch, the true intrinsic value, so to speak, that was I able to derive from it was it being one of the best times I had blogging, ever, because unlike the episodic summaries I had written prior to it, Code Geass was an impetus that allowed me to turn the visual editor in which I laid out the posts, into a full fledged canvas that consisted of photoshopped images and arbitrarily strung together captions. While it made every week's post a joke, the trouble I had to go through for each and every one was not. Wearing out the F5 button due to the hundreds of screenshots that would taken, I would then scour imageboards for inspiration and ready to use templates, which eventually goes through a filtering cum organizing process that lasted for days on end. Ultimately, each post was an amalgamation of the aforementioned material plus my own personal touch, be it downright crude jokes or the pop culture references that I loved making, where just about anything and everything could be parodied. If I were asked what my favorite Code Geass post was, it would definitely be the one revolving around Metal Gear Solid, since it entails the "truth" behind Lelouch's malovelence, where he turned against his own allies for the greater purpose, and eventually died a martyr. On a side note, I shed tears watching Lelouch reincarnated as an A.I in Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo. :lol: :cry:

Nogizaka Mika - Yes Chris, I Would Love To Sit Over There

You know what arouses me more than little girls? Precocious ones that are all too eager to reach puberty. Oho, believe me, under my tender loving care, I would bring her screaming all the way to womanhood.... Whether it is cheekily beckoning at changing room mirrors or reacting accordingly to the splatter of ice cream on her face, to just being plain cute, Nogizaka Mika bags all the relevant awards that I can think of, including best imouto. :twisted:

Sunohara Youhei - He Ain't Heavy

More so than girlfriends and waifus, it is imperative for a man to have a male best friend, because quite frankly, there are just some things that are just impossible to share with a female. Someone you can always count on to keep your secrets safe, someone who will stick up for you when the going gets tough, someone who will follow you to the ends of the earth, someone to ask how messy wet dreams can get(read T2's Clannad doujin) and finally,  someone who could be your brother from another mother. A salute to these unsung characters.

BRO FIST

Meido Shi~n - Indiscretions Of Youth

I still question as to what it was that possessed me into doing this. Whatever it was, this was the pinnacle of my depravity, something which I can never undo, and for those who were unfortunate enough to have witnessed it, something which can never be unseen. The narcissist in me thought I could pull it off, but alas, the outcome was less than desirable, in more ways than one. To put it simply, in the eyes of the venerated Admiral Ackbar, I would have been deemed no threat whatsoever. Whether it was just the ill preparation prior to the attempt or me not looking the part, this was something I would definitely give a go at least once more in the future....

Metal Gear Solid 4 - War Has Changed

Having vehemently followed the series ever since I was an impressionable lad, the first Metal Gear Solid game on the Playstation left me awestruck due to its revolutionary gameplay and storytelling. Nine years down the road, and my love grew stronger with each installment. Every iteration of Metal Gear Solid was to me, a unique experience of its own, with breakthroughs in gameplay styles among other things, but above all else, provided insight to the series as a whole.

Despite the fact I spent more time watching the game than actually playing it, all is forgiven ultimately due to the closure which I had sought after for nearly a decade, had been finally fulfilled, not to mention the trip down memory lane in the second last chapter. Oh god, Shadow Moses :cry: Even Psycho Mantis still managed to impress, despite what is now considered parlor tricks as opposed to the brick shitting mindfuck of yesteryear. The sense of contentment was unlike any other and also the reason why watching the poignant reunion between (brothers?)father and son almost reduced me to tears, not so much because of the emotional significance behind it, but because it was really all over. Future spin offs featuring Raiden notwithstanding.

Fallout 3 - What The Fawkes

Never much a fan of western role playing games, Fallout 2 forever altered my perception on the latter; it being than just fantasy dungeon crawlers dictated by the likes of a twenty side die. The freedom and non-linearity of its design that allowed players to do pretty much whatever they want, was a far departure from the Japanese RPGs that I was accustomed to. It is exactly for this reason why I was filled with an apprehensive sense of glee when Bethesda announced they were coming up with a sequel....

To sum things up, while Fallout 3 is indeed a great game, it doesn't exactly live up to greatness that made its predecessors legendary, as it stumbles at the fundamental of levels. In an attempt to make the game accessible to the masses, Bethesda tweaked the original gameplay mechanics to the point that stats hardly affected the outcome of your character. There are tonnes of other things I would love to touch on, but I'm going to stop right here, lest this turns into a game review post. With the introduction of the SDK, a number of the things that I addressed could be easily solved, though no mods can ever fix that pathetic ending sequence that left me in a state of total What The Fawkes. My character's last words were as follows: "Fawkes...Charon...you're fucking immune. I'll fill you with Rad-X and give you radiation suits if you like - just get in there and ENTER THE FUCKING CODE. AAAAAARBLFARBLGARBL....." Alternatively, you can let someone else do the job but you have to forever live a life of shame because of it, never mind your contributions and sacrifices beforehand. Of course, all this will be retconned in the upcoming $9.99 expansion pack.

Encroaching tl;dr territory as it is, I'm going to just stop at 10 items. Would love to write more, but these are the only ones I can think of that I can write more than 2 lines, not to mention this being stale as it is. :lol:

  1. hahaha nice list..brings back some memories.

  2. I’m like fanfiction.net’s platinum member; Girls shlick to my stuff and boys fap to it. :cool:

  3. Shin, you DO know of the 3rd DLC coming out for Fallout 3 right? Y’know, Broken Steel? Discards the sacrifice ending and all that? ;)

  4. … And as for Seitenkan. Oh GOD Seitenkan. I think it’s the only collection of images that has come close to the size of my Touhou folder. That’s saying a lot, given my Touhou folder’s MASSIVE size.

  5. Ah yes, I mentioned about 10 dollar expansion didn’t I? :P That said, I really feel bad for the Xbuddies who will have to shell out that kind of money to Bethesda when it was their fault to begin with for releasing an incomplete game like that. At least us PC games(I assume you’re one yourself?) needn’t worry, since we have “alternate” means of getting it. :roll: Speaking of which, I heard that the PS3 version ain’t getting all of this cool shit, since the developers made some kind of deal with Microsoft? What a kick in the groin(a target area sorely missing in the VATS by the way)

    Yes, Seitenkan unnecessarily gave itself a folder with subcategories for me, and as strange as it is coming from me, fapping to Kyonko still feels weird. Almost surreal, since I keep having male Kyon in my head. :roll:

  6. Yes, I’m a PC gamer, though for some odd reason I’m not getting my online updates properly despite having an original game. Still, here’s to more to traveling the Capital Wasteland (or in the case of the first DLC, kicking Red Chinese invaders!) crushing the Enclave underneath the armored bootheels of the BoS.

    And as for Seitenkan… The hottest stars also are the first ones to burn out, as with all obsessions, but holy heck, it would be remiss for Kadokawa to not abuse it. Then again, Kadokawa has been doing some dubious things lately, so… *shrugs*

  7. Holy shit Shin that’s some cool story there.

    Also, Seitenkan at its peak was a pain to keep up with. One of the few times I’ve seen a seperate images-only thread for a fanwork initiative.

    TheBigN’s last blog post..Oh Father, where art thou?

  9. OH YEAH i still bear mental scars from seeing you in that meido outfit. :oops: :oops:

    As for Fallout 3, i never get tired of enslaving people and killing children. Good Times. :lol: Nice cremation btw. :cool:

  10. Well, for all its insanity, Seitenkan was a DELIGHTFUL diversion. Not really the real thing, but close. Now if Kadokawa Shoten would just get a clue and give us more of the original, then I won’t mind waiting a few more years (heck, after more than a decade, I’m still an EVA fan; I’m that patient).

    Incidentally, I had the Mister Sandman perk in F03, but never really got to use it in the way I wanted (in Rivet City collecting Combat Armor from the sleeping guards, haha) since I already scratched together a 100% working suit of power armor by that point. And the Mesmetron kept on blowing people’s heads off! :swt:

  11. I liked FO3 at first, but it got really easy really quickly. Also so much of it felt repetitive, and I don’t think I was even min-maxing that much. Then there was that craptastic story…

    Kabitzin’s last blog post..Practice and Theory

  12. Kabitzin: Oh I dunno, the Enclave random encounters still manage to catch me unawares and kick the tar out of me at times (deathclaws = PAIN), and I STILL haven’t found all stat Bobbleheads on my own, so there’s pretty much a lot of me left to do. And places to go (Old Olney? Really?). And quests to do (holy hell, Petrovita). And easy? I guess I must be playing it wrong, since I routinely run out of weapons due to wear. :cry:

  13. @Myssa: Who said we burned out? We just turned down the brightness to save on electricity. :wink:

    @Shin: I’m not surprised you don’t separate the two. The really broken tend to like the ambiguity. :roll:

  14. RmX: I stick with things for the long-run (as evidenced by my love for EVA and ToHeart), so no worries for ME. Dunno about other people. :kiss:

  18. @C.I

    Yeah, remember when missing out on a day meant 4-5 pages of backlogs? That was some crazy shit.

    @BigN

    Nasu’s affinity with marine life surpasses all. :roll:

    @Setsuna

    Private shoot at your place then?

    @Kabitzin

    Yes, despite beefing up the difficulty and using overhaul mods, I still breezed through it. :swt:

    @Myssa Rei

    Actually, Kabitzin has a point. By pouring skill points in both Small Guns and Repair early, the rest of the game seemed all too easy, since I felt the enemies have been dumbed down a lot since Fallout 2. Even the fearsome Deathclaw was tamed with a single shot from the dartgun, turning it into an oversized limping lizard. Also, funnily enough, I never got anybody’s head to splat with the Mesmetron, they either obey or just turn aggro on me. :O

    @RmX

    Stop wasting time on side projects! :mad:

    @Omisyth

    Yup, American Football rules state that the game goes on even after the clock stops for the final play. :lol:
