Code Geass R2 Turn 25: The World Ends With You
Posted by: Shin

NO SHOPS. NO LULZ. FINAL DESTINATION!

Despite her initial resistance, Nunnally is subjugated by Geass.

The fight between Suzaku and Kallen ends in a stalemate, with the latter being rescued by Gino while the Albion is destroyed in an explosion.

With no one left to stand in his way, Lelouch becomes the absolute ruler.

Until...

The truth behind the Zero Re:quiem is revealed.

A nod to that piece of fanart that has been floating depicting Orange in an orange farm. Sadly, Sayoko is nowhere in sight.

It ends with C.C on top of a hay cart talking to herself. Or is she? Can someone say Spice and Wolf?
Just wow. Thoughts and more updates later on.

Sad ending :( Goodbye Code Geass

I thought so too with the Orange-kun and Sayoko thing, and the Spice and Wolf. In Code Geass R3, C.C. will evolve to have wolf ears, and meeting a merchant named~~~

@Nagato
I’m hoping she’s in the kitchen doing her meido chores right now.
@kanzeon
Yeah, believe it. I’m so cashing on that.
@LaLa
I figured the only sad bunch are Kalulu shippers since I don’t believe Lelouch’s dead.
@Rakuen
Third time’s the charm! R3 confirmed!
September 28th, 2008
I really don’t think Lelouch lives. I think C.C was just staring up in the sky and talking to him ( She said it to him even tho he is dead. Maybe she even meant that he was in heaven (?) )
Just my opinion
@Shin I hate Kalulu >_< SuzakuxLelouch ftw
Anyway Goodbye Code Geass
Its been a good show

I think C.C gave up her immortality to save Lelouch and he’s still alive. Now he’s living as a refugee along with C.C
September 28th, 2008
I’m betting that Lelouch is still alive.
Reposting something from another site’s comments.
Biggest Clue;Paper crane:Nunnally taught Lulu to made those in R1
Lelouch is still alive. He has Charles’ Code which he received when the man choked him. The Code activates first when you die, which happened. Charles code got activate when he shot himself the first time, same with C.C. when she was killed by the nun. And before you say can’t have Code and a Geass at the same time, the Code wasn’t the one C.C. had, meaning that Lelouch was the first one to achieve Code Geass. Lelouch’s code also activates when Suzaku stabbed him. Nunnally even gets ‘memory watch’ when he touched Lelouch. It was the similar effects when Leluch touched C.C.’s body back in the cave episode. This pretty much tells us that he really has the code and it is activating to revive him. He’s now traveling the country-side with C.C., living as immortals.
That’s the only reason for C.C. to be suddenly so happy again. Also, before you say that C.C. was just talking to the dead like with Marianne, that’s not true. She could only talk to her because of the nature of her Geass which allowed her to implant herself into the “hearts” of others. That’s how she was able to talk with Marianne. Lelouch’s Geass was entirely different, meaning that she could only have spoken to her if he was there.

In the end, Lulu and CC will exchange their geass and code every so often in order to live forever.
September 29th, 2008
There isn’t another good show out there like Geass.
Seriously, anime just died. There isn’t anything worth watching anymore.
September 29th, 2008
Before i say something about the finale, i have something to say to Setsuna-san.
STOP SPREADING THAT LELOUCH IS ALIVE MESSAGE!!
Seriously, i been to a lot blogs and message boards and somebody keeps repeating the same thing you said over & over again! JUST STOP IT!! We already get the message, just stop repeating it at everywhere else!!
SO now about the finale.
I HATE IT! Lulu dying was great but it still didn’t resolve some other important issue like who created Geass, what happen to the other royal family members, where was Nonette etc,etc
Also after seeing Nunally in that leather outfit, i was in rage & wanted to kill Lulu for(supposedly making her sex slave, that sick pervert must DIE!!) but thankfully it was granted by Zero/Suzaku.
Who knows they might do an ova, a movie or another season.
PS. Shin, Now that Code Geass is over, will you be doing a review for the upcoming anime To Aru Majutsu no Index?
September 29th, 2008
@A Anime Loving Republican:
Woahhhh, calm down. Setsuna-san’s just saying what he believes.
and I agree with him. Besides, you can sorta say Lulu’s christ-like. When he fell, his arms were spread out and his blood created a vertical line. Like a cross – and like Christ, who resurrected, I don’t think Lulu’s dead either. :P lulu’s with cc forever
Na, Shin. Any idea on what the song is? After lulu gets stabbed, and Nunally sees his memories? It’s a piano piece, and I can’t find it in the R2 OST anywhere.. Maybe I’m missing something.

Lulu will always be with C.C. Lawl. Either that or he’s in the world of C OR he’s reincarnated into that pink crane. FABULOUS!

Long live the loli empress!!
All Hail Nunnally!!!
“Sadly, Sayoko is nowhere in sight.”
she probably is prego, so she cant work in the farm and will give birth to an orange…
September 29th, 2008
That would ruin leluches sacrifice if he didn’t really die there. Its as if the entire anime was built up simply to have leluch destroyed in such a way. Its symbolic genius put into the show. Leluch’s death symbolized the death of hatred at that point in time. Its a major improvement from if you look back to the beginning of the show, the world is a better place now and thats what leluch was trying to achieve. Also the crane in the end was symbolizing leluch’s promise to create a peaceful world coming true. Anyway the most dramatic thing in any story is the death of a character especially when one is built up so dramatically, While finally at the end everyone realized his true intentions. If the creators wanted to keep it a good anime they would stick with this season as the final season and not add on and ruin it. Now that leluch created peace, what the hell would he do from there anyway?

September 29th, 2008
Actually I looked around and it was confirmed that theres definatley not going to be a 3rd season…
September 29th, 2008
I believe everyone is missing the point of the ending. Lelouch is neither dead nor alive. There is such a thing called story and a narrative. Story is everything that happens in the universe from start to finish, and narrative is the part of that story that we get to see. The narrative of the story was Code Geass and R2, and the narrative concluded with an ambiguous ending that hints at either death or life. Since the narrative has ended, neither answer is correct as no more story will be shown (unless there is some kind of OVA release). We only find out the story by the narrative that the creators want us to see, and the creators left the ending of the narrative (purposely) ambiguous. They want you to interpret it how you want to. However, no matter what your opinion is, it doesn’t change the fact that this narrative is a fabrication, and the creators, as gods over this tale, ended it with no true conclusion. Believe what you want to believe, but don’t push your opinions on others, especially if you hate Lelouch, because then you’re a hypocrite, as you are practically using Geass to manipulate people.
Just for kicks, I wish to believe Lelouch is alive. The reasoning behind my belief is that Kallen talks to Lelouch internally at the end, but C.C. talks out loud, as if directly talking to someone. Plus the crane is pretty symbolic of Lelouch’s physical presence. Either way, it was an interesting ending, and an amazing message about society and how to look at each side’s point of view.
September 29th, 2008
This is not at all surprising sunrise let the series end like that so it has an opening to gage the fan feed back so if the feedback is high then there open to do another code geass either it be R3 or maybe a movie.
And if the feed back is low then sunrise just lets it stand as is.
Or the rest of the story might be picked up and told in the (crappy) manga
September 29th, 2008
wWell i don’t think R2 is possible. Maybe a movie or a small ova but no. No R3

Maybe C.C. folded that crane (since she was playing with Nunnally back in season 1 and had a chance to learn how).. I mean, it’s pink. Remember the pink Lancelot?
I think Sunrise purposely made it where Lelouch can be seen as dead or alive so if they possibly wanted something like an OVA they can make it if the fans crave for it. But IMO I think he’s dead because it would be unfair to Suzaku and people he geassed if he lives happily with C.C.
September 29th, 2008
Hoshi, i think you misunderstood me. I not mad against Setsuna-san theory that Lelouch is still alive. I mad for the fact he copied an entire message from a message board that been appearing repeatedly everywhere else on other internet blogs and message boards. Its annoying to see that message over & over again.

SirLexson:
Wow that’s going a little far, also… using Geass lolwhut? If there is really ambiguity, then don’t people have the right to express their opinion about what they think happened? Right, right, it’s ambiguous, but your interpretation is the right one.
Anyway… LOL at issa-sa and the piercing thing.
otou-san’s last blog post..Geass is over!
September 29th, 2008
Otou-san, I simply dropped the Geass comment to be a douche, haha. Ambiguity is vague with the assumption that people will take it in there own way. For example, if I said “man that’s a lot of meat”, some people would think I literally meant meat, and other’s (and probably more) would think I was making a sexual innuendo. Only I know what I truly meant when I said it. So,point being, producers leave ambiguity so that all sides can have a suitable ending, and so they can possibly come back later and make more money with a ova or movie. The creators obviously do have a true ending in mind, but we don’t know it, therefore all opinions are welcome, and people shouldn’t constantly buzz-kill another’s happy ending. Leave that to the creators, haha.
Anyways. A love Lelouch and hope he’s alive, I don’t think of Suzaku as a douche anymore, and Code Geass was an amazing ride. Let’s all hope for some kind of continuation. Word.
Oh, also, someone earlier said that it would be unfair to Suzaku if Lelouch was alive with C.C. I believe that could be a fair assumption, if it weren’t for the fact that Lelouch stated to Suzaku that Suzaku’s punishment was to kill Lelouch, and Lelouch’s punishment was to die. If Lelouch didn’t die, then Suzaku didn’t truly kill him. There punishment would then simply be the fact that they will no longer see each other. If anything, Suzaku came out better, as he is a hero to society, and Lelouch is a villain who may never see his friends and family again. However, that was his cross to bear, just as Suzaku must live with knowing he will never be with Euphemia, and that his best friend is exiled forever. I believe that’s why the ending would be so sweet if Lelouch was alive. He would be filled with the pain of all that he had done, but happy for the good that came from it. Just as Suzaku is sad that he has lost so much, but is happy that the sacrifices reaped benefit.
September 29th, 2008
The question on the regard of Lelouch’s mortality was intentionally left to be ambiguous for no reason other than marketing. If there is enough fan demand, Sunrise will pull out an OVA out of its ass that depicts 24 hour long sex scene between Lelouch and C.C. two months after the end of R2. Perhaps there would be couple databooks and novels released in the future that shall shed light on the unexplained/unexploited portions of Code Geass such as the origin of Code/Geass, Lelouch’s ultimate fate, Kallen’s ultimate fate (KallenXGino ending? Oh Noz!), Knight of Nine(seriously, she appeared in the show for like only 1 second and she is one of the best known Knight of Rounds due to her role in the Code Geass Sim Game…or maybe there will be a H-sequel of that game coming out soon? Oh, DO WAN…! Wait…let me think on that…) and whether it is possible for Orange and Anya to reproduce (android loli/shota?).
Code Geass season 1 was a masterpiece. While by no means was it perfect, season 1 had a unique magical feeling to it. The audience can easily relate themselves to the characters and the mecha combat was portrayed in a believable fashion. The balanced mix of the supernatural, philosophical, romantic, humane, violence and musical elements made Code Geass season 1 one heck of a show. In short, it was almost unique. I seriously thought that Code Geass R2, with a bigger budget and more time for planning, may become the next stepping stone of the animation industry – similar to Dragon Ball or Evangelion.
But what did I get? Trainwreck! If I have to give this season a final score out of 10. It would score 6/10 on overall. R2 literally destroyed everything that season 1 had build on. All the suspense, tensions, relationships, plot and all that were either neglected (WhAt HaPpened to LelouchXC.C.????What the heck were those kisses for? WTF is Code and Where the heck is Geass from? Why Jupiter???)or brushed over briefly (Marianne’s role=Kyon class facepalm). The writers of the show weren’t trying to go for originality, they were going for trainwreck! But like all trainwrecks, they tend to attract a huge crowd. If I am to give a final score on the entertainment level of R2, it’s a solid 10. Despite the fact that I lost all of my fanboyism (I was so worked up when R2 episode 1 was getting released, that I’d make a Haruhist ashamed) by the time of episode 12’s release, I never stopped watching the show. THAT is something.
OHBYTHEWAY, I never understood why Code Geass has a low TV rating. I mean, it’s not the greatest, but it sure the hell beats Naruto (*shudder*) and those other crap. With that being said, Macross Frontier deserves to be the best anime of 2008, unless Clannad After Story has something to say about it (Gundam 00 two is automatically kicked out of the ballot box because it’s Sunrise).
By the way, it just hit me that around half of Lelouch’s personal harem has taken up residence in the world of dead/world of C. Lelouch sure the heck wouldn’t be lonely there. Hum Hum! So that I guess the ultimate winner who has claimed rights to Lelouch’s much sought after virginity is Shirley, hum? LelouchXShirley: ONE:TRUE:PAIRING! Yes, Shin, you heard me.
LelouchXEuphie is fine too…blood bond shouldn’t matter when you are dead, right?
Unless Rolo still has something to say about it…
Lastly: I DEMAND THOSE PHOTOSHOPS! I am fully prepared to wait till the next Sunday for Shin’s phOtoShops. So don’t you dare to deprive me of lols! (The Soviet Russia Penguin Red Army and those Soul Eater emo-facial distortion photos really owned me)
September 29th, 2008
Well overall it was a pretty fun show that had a good ending. I mean it wasn’t like a crazy ending like we might have feared, but rather an appropriate ending to the show. As for whether Lulu is alive or not, unless there’s more Code Geass to be had that’s more of an academic point.

ORANGE FARM.
FUCK YEAH.
September 29th, 2008
alright, there are so many clues that say that lelouch is still alive
1) Lelouch was able to transport memories to Nunnaly (remember what happened when C.C.’s memories were transferred to Lelouch first season? This points to Lelouch having a code)
2) Lelouch and C.C. vow to stand by each other as allies FOREVER
3) For the critical thinkers and those who really pay attention… the Code was questionably passed to Lelouch ( ep21, When Charles chokes Lelouch with his hand, where his code appears, the final disintegration of charles is without his hand…. which implies it stayed with Lelouch. The code activates after you die, e.g. Charles shooting himself and the Nun killing C.C.)
4) The wagon driver was not revealed, and C.C. talks directly to Lelouch saying that the power of kings makes you solitary, but not entirely true. Therefore, can Lelouch be not solitary if he’s dead, or not solitary with C.C…. Makes all the sense in the world you guys…
Final Conclusion: Lelouch is Alive! All those who wanted a Lelouch C.C. ending like i did, i hope this confirmation gave you proper resolution to the series :D C.C. and Lelouch will forever live together as immortals…
September 29th, 2008
@ rollchan: I hear ya. There are quite a handful here. Good… Good.
10,000 votes for Orange farm!
Edited: Yes, Lulu is alive and jumping. An OVA may be inevitable.
Rakuen’s last blog post..Itazura na Kiss 24: This Isn’t The Ending Episode?
September 29th, 2008
I think the ending redeemed the series a lot. The last ep was a bit rushed (I had heard it would be an hour long, so I kinda expected it to be longer), but I think it was the only way it could end for Lelouch.
IMO the “Re;” could mean whatever you want it to mean. It could be Requiem. Or it could be Resurrection. Or Rearranged Furniture. Whether he lived or died, it doesn’t matter. What’s important is that his plan did bring closure to the entire conflict and paved the way for Nunnally and a gentler Britannia.
As for a “sequel,” I’ve heard that Taniguchi and Okouichi own the rights to Geass, not Sunrise. They’ve made it clear that this is the end.
AslanCross’s last blog post..Celebrity Lookalikes
September 29th, 2008
As stated before by aslancross.
The ending redeemed the series alot.
The past few week, we had seen several lackluster episodes that eighter felt poorly thought out or shallow.
It´s nice to see that they pulled it together at the end tough. While i do think there were several mistakes done this episode: Looking at a blind cripple running around with a gun namely…
Also im rather dissapointed by the last few scenes, with Kallen eating toast, etc. I think that should have been left to the imagination and have eighter have the UN hold a speech about how bad lulu and the Britannian empire was and how things were gonna change, then add CC holding an internal monologue about what really happened a´la MGS3… But thats just an example and i digress.
They did manage to end it on a note of fulfillment while still holding true to the light hearted seriousness and being over the top in everything they did, keeping to the overall “feel” of the series if you will:
Geass, weather you loved it, hated it, watched it for the lulz, crazy outfits or the subliminal note of homosexuality you still have to agree that this show was FANTABULOUS!
Whats done, is done and gotta say,
“ALL HAIL LELOUCHE”
One final time if you will:

ALL HAIL LELOUCH
ALL HAIL BRITANIA
September 30th, 2008
I’ve chosen to think that Lulu is still alive but I’m a sucker for happy endings, no matter what series it is, so my opinion isn’t that reliable on this subject.
I think the crane may be more symbolic than an actual proof of life from Lulu. CC supposedly learned to fold them from Nunally back in R1 and while CC may be tilting her head to the driver of the cart, she could also be nodding towards the crane itself, symbolic of Lulu’s physical death but spiritual presence due to his sacrifice and being made the world’s scapegoat to end conflicts, finally ending the Geass’ curse of solitude by uniting the entire world against it.
There are plenty of interpretations to be made here, including a comparison of Christ to Lulu, also alluding to a resurrection.
But don’t mind me, I studied cinema last year so I got really good and interpreting symbols and that crap.
It was a good run while it lasted and I’ll miss Geass. The ending was pretty good if really predictable but we’ll miss our weekly dose of WTF. Until 00 rolls around anyway.

I think this is one thing that nobody else has thought of:
If Lulu is indeed dead, and ended up in ‘heaven’, then technically Shirley won the harem war as he didn’t like Euphie as more than a sister and he was bawling over Shirley’s body even after trying to Geass her to live.
Shirley x Lulu ending confirmed?
October 1st, 2008
@Faye
Proof Sunrise is just ripping off whatever they can.
@Hoshi
It’s definitely there, though I can’t help you identify it, since the OST is on my desktop which has broken down.
@Haesslich
I thought Euphie was his first love?
And what made you think Lelouch would end up in heaven?
October 2nd, 2008
He didn’t seem quite as broken up about it as he was with Shirley later. And wherever Lulu goes, you KNOW Shirley’ll follow. Since none of the other girls in the harem are dead (Euphie never joined it), Shirley wins.
October 3rd, 2008
i dunno whether lelouch is dead or not, but that ending made me tear
like i never cried before! its so sad!! OMG!
and, i like the way they draw nunnaly, very nice! i like the hair… OMG.. suzaku is not dead he’s alive!!!
I LOVE CODE GEASS!! R3 please!!!
October 5th, 2008
Damn, when Nunnally was under her Lelouch’s Geass, she was so NOSTAGIC! I mean god!
Damn, I’m kinda pissed off at the people who made that into a cliff-hanger.
Oh, well it’s the Japanese way to do things around animes and manga and ect.
Questions/complaints that should be cleared in Code Geass:
1) If Suzaku had to be Zero, what’s going to happen in his life if he already moved on without his Euphemia? I mean? Is he going to end up with Nunnally?
2) If Schneizel’s alive, isn’t Lelouch alive?
3) I don’t know about you but Rolo’s and ass for killing Shirley! I know I voted for C.C, but still……..
4) What’s Ohgi’s and Viletta’s baby going to look like? Caramel-ish?
5) When are they going to make another Code Geass season? Are you Japanese lazy or something?
6) Are Lelouch and C.C going to end up together? (if he still lived of course) Never mind, they are if they’re traveling together anyways.
7) I WANT THESE ANSWERS!!!! COME ON!!
October 5th, 2008
Well the ending was pretty good and the question about Lulu being alive……only time will tell hahaa
November 12th, 2008
man what happened to this thread?
I’m dead sure that i will want more of Geass ( even if you literally geass me ) which ever way it comes as i will sure catch it right away. may it be another season, OVA, movie, etc. etc. WHATEVER!
but preferably to have Lelouch and C.C and Karen in it!
I DONT CARE ABOUT OTHERS! BUT GIVE ME LELOUCH!
May he be a spirit, a zombie or whatever! Just give me Lelouch already man!
I may sound really fanboy here but i’m sure there are much like me who just can’t resist his geass!
Oh Lelouch if you can hear me, just come back if you can.
because im sure for not long the world is going to be corrupted again!
and only in your hand can we be saved!
December 11th, 2008
If no one has said this yet, i will. in the game we find out that lelouch’s mother’s soul was given to CC, and whenever you see her talking to herself, she is usualy talking to lelouch’s mom
and lelouch’s plan was to become ‘the demon emporer’ while suzaku (now zero) killed him, so that all the hate in the world that would now be focused on him is gone, creating a peaceful place for nunnaly to live. make sense?
December 12th, 2008
Lelouch may seem dead now, but Sunrise is probably going to come up with an excuse for a third season, whether with Lelouch or not. Remember those characters that go so little attention that they could be eliminated from the series without much change? Rivalz with a geass is the real end of the world. It would be funny, and scary.
December 13th, 2008
December 13th, 2008
December 14th, 2008
With the popularity for Code Geass, i presume that they will not let it end like that. it will continue with either a movie (i’ve heard rumors), episode 26 of R2, or a season 3 that i expect will be crap because of the lack of action. i mean after all, aren’t all the loose ends tied up at the end of R2 ep.25?

MORTICIAN: Here — he says he’s not dead!
SUZAKU: Yes, he is.
LELOUCH: I’m not!
MORTICIAN: He isn’t.
SUZAKU: Well, he will be soon, he’s very ill.
LELOUCH: I’m getting better!
SUZAKU: No, you’re not — you’ll be stone dead in a moment.
MORTICIAN: Oh, I can’t take him like that — it’s against regulations.
LELOUCH: I don’t want to go in the cart!
SUZAKU: Oh, don’t be such a baby.
MORTICIAN: I can’t take him…
LELOUCH: I feel fine!
SUZAKU: Oh, do us a favor…
MORTICIAN: I can’t.
SUZAKU: Well, can you hang around a couple of minutes? He won’t
be long.
MORTICIAN: Naaah, I got to go on to Robinson’s — they’ve lost nine
today.
SUZAKU: Well, when is your next round?
MORTICIAN: Thursday.
LELOUCH: I think I’ll go for a walk.
SUZAKU: You’re not fooling anyone y’know. Look, isn’t there
something you can do?
LELOUCH: I feel happy… I feel happy.
[whop]
SUZAKU: Ah, thanks very much.
MORTICIAN: Not at all. See you on Thursday.
SUZAKU: Right.
