BABY DON'T HURT ME, NO MORE!

Being the responsible blogger that I am, I take it as my duty to shed light on the following news item regarding the crackdown by authorities on figurine outlets in my home country. Surely these people have been misinformed and are blowing things out of proportion. Erotic figurines? Surely such lewd objects do not exist!

KUALA LUMPUR: Surge of erotic figurines sold in several shopping complexes around the city capital had been confirmed being imported by local retailers for the sake of fulfilling the demand and interest of people with such weird hobbies especially those that are rich.This matter was unveiled by Central Enforcer Chief, Publication control and Quranic text Division, Kementerian Dalam Negeri (KDN*, Ministry of Internal Affairs) Mohd. Rizal Abidin - after several raids to toy selling premises, following a cover by Harian Metro (The newspaper responsible) regarding the selling of erotic toys on the 4th of August.

According to him, most of the sellers claimed that they only sell those figurines to ‘the more established youngsters’ due to the price of said figurines reaching up to MYR 200 each. “According to the seller, most of these ‘obscene’ toy dolls are popular amongst teenagers that buy it for their personal collection, or as gifts for friends.” “The KDN (see above) take the selling of said erotic themed toy dolls seriously and investigation of this matter is conducted as soon as the news was published. Action had to be taken as these erotic figurines contains elements that can harm corrupt our society’s morals.”

According to him again several operations made involving four locations of toy shops around famous shopping complexes at Star Hill, Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya and Brickfields since last Monday. “The operations involving 8 officers from Putrajaya’s KDN branch supported by Selangor’s KDN officer led by Assistant Senior Enforcer from Publication control and Quranic text Division, Mohammad Hashim Kamaruddin finally succeeded to track down various erotic figurines found to be sold openly to public.” “From the acquired evidences, the KDN confiscated more than 114 units of figurines with erotic elements from all of the above mentioned premises.”

All of the confiscated erotic figurines are estimated to be around MYR 10,000 and were brought to the KDN’s HQ at Putrajaya while prosecuting measures are being undertaken. “Shop owners found posessing and selling of said figurines can be jailed for no more than 5 years and fined for no less than MYR 20,000 according to Section 7 of the Malaysian Law.” According to him again, most of the sellers of above mentioned erotic figurines are aware of their crime. “They claimed that those figurines were mainly imported from China and were succesfully avoiding authority’s inspection at local ports before being smuggled into this country.”

Trying my utmost best to rage, but I just can't, due to the fact that disillusionment and apathy have caught up to me a long time ago. This blatant act of self righteous faggotory is typical of the ever so pretentious Malaysian authorities, though it was really just a matter of time anyway, inevitable, following their recent clampdown on gay comics. What impeccable timing too! Just when I was comtemplating on dedicating myself to this "weird hobby"! Thanks Malaysia, you saved me from irrational squandering of hard earned money! Just kidding, I really still want that Nanako figurine!

    I’m not getting too much information from that newspaper. We’re the stores that contained these figurines for “mainstream” consumers? We’re the figurines isolated from the rest of the store, or at least indicated to be NSFW? How is this supposed to work, since I don’t know how things work in Malaysia. :/

    I’m sure we all know that the cops are just looking for an easy way to build up their collections. I lost any faith in anything proclaimed by conservatives after I read an article about a hotel hosting some sort of conservative Christian convention (C3, with booth nuns, pounding christian rock, and bible swag?) here in the States four or so years ago. The hotel noted that some 70% of the rooms had… taken advantage of the porn on demand available in every room, the most ever- and every single room in the hotel was booked by convention goers. So yeah, by and large conservatives are hypocrites. At least we have the almighty 1st amendment, as well as a court system that (usually) actually thinks, on our side here in the U.S. Sorry for you.

    You should have had a poll for favorite figurine. I vote the nurse, although it was tough.

    Well I don’t know much about asian history, but since the time of the greeks there has been statues with erotic details so we don’t care much about it. Surely some figures are to erotic to be sold just like that, those type of figures should be always inside the store and you should only purchase them if you’re an adult, not a 14~15 year old, you wouldn’t buy an erotic DVD at a porn shop at that age I suppose. I understand the authorities point of view but confiscating entire collections?! That’s wrong, at least they should warn the shop owners that they could only sell those figures to adults

    Interesting. I have been wondering if KDN is going to take action about these ero figures found in many local stores and they finally did. I wonder if XL is safe? I mean they still have those Yakin Byoutou stuff hidden in their shelves, don’t they? Btw, if KDN keep on going like this, won’t castoffable figures be their next target?     Actually during the raid at MidValley, KDN do raid XL, and try to confiscate bikini and bunny girl figurines, but somehow the shop staff there refuse to let KDN do it. Animetech there just surrender their figurines without a fight.
