If there's one thing I like about Malaysia is its affinity to troll. Local anime fans might remember an uproar years ago about how this tabloid paper had likened anime to hentai, which, needless to say, raged the community to no end. Of course much like everything else here, it was eventually swept under the carpet and soon forgotten. Because you can't keep a good troll at bay, here's yet another facepalm inducing otaku article from CanDo Land.
TL Note's: Gay comics gaining reception.
Since the entire article is in Malay, I'll just translate gists of it for non Malaysian readers:
Serbuan itu dibuat ekoran pendedahan Kosmo! kelmarin dan hasilnya mereka berjaya merampas sebanyak 50 buah komik gay pelba- gai tajuk dengan isi kandungan menjurus kepada keruntuhan moral di kalangan generasi muda.
The raid was conducted following a revelation by Kosmo! which saw authorities seizing as many as 50 gay comics of various titles that will lead to the corrosion of morale among youths.
"Dengan itu, bahan bacaan tersebut dirampas dan akan dihantar ke Bahagian Penerbitan untuk kajian selanjutnya di mana penentuan sama ada bahan tersebut sesuai untuk pembacaan umum atau sebalik- nya,” katanya ketika dihubungi semalam.
"With that, the aforementioned materials were confiscated and sent to the Publishing Department for further analysis to determine whether they are suited for general consumption or otherwise," he said, when contacted yesterday.
Malah, komik-komik tersebut ternyata mendapat sambutan daripada generasi muda yang gemar membaca komik tersebut.
As a matter of fact, these comics are clearly well received among the younger generation who read them.
Tambah Faizal, bahan bacaan ini tidak sepatutnya dijual di premis berkenaan atau di mana sahaja kerana ia boleh mempengaruhi golongan muda dalam aktiviti yang tidak bermoral.
Faizal added that these reading materials should not be sold at these premises or anywhere else as it will coax youngsters into engaging in immoral activities.
Gay comics eh? Putting aside the fact they're unable to discern between shounen ai and hardcore yaoi, the authorities have not been doing a very good job at it(surprise, surprise!) as I'm still able to find them at bookstores like Borders and Kinokuniya. Trust me, if they're what Kosmo! claims them to be, I would have been all over it. Still, as guardians of society's well being, the Home Affairs ministry raided those outlets anyway. Thought Toshokan Sensou's plot was farfetched? It's already happening here! Where am I are the fujoshis going to buy BL manga now? 
PS Stop! Master is one of the hottest yaoi doujins I've read as its artstyle made it look like a normal, straight H doujin. Do try it out if you ever get the chance.

Yuri’s good too, I really enjoy it… But no comment on banning yaoi since I’m from the Philippines. BUT, it’s kinda sad that they’re taking away the enjoyment of some female otakus, if they do that with yuri in our country, I’ll go ballistic! Oh, wait, they don’t care about it here.

Kosmo is trash, everyone knows that. It’s a tabloid. BL manga have been around for yonks, all over the big bookstore chains. Anyway real fujoshi will get their fix from Comiket etc.
That said, any BL manga you would recommend me? I feel like a sudden change of what I normally read. *ahem* :D

I mean, the law did say homosexual literatures are banned. And this includes BL mangos also, wether you like it (Oh I sure you love it) or not. (lol, now I sound like a government ppl). I’m definitely not a master in this field, since I usually opt for the trap doujins as opposed to the standard yaoi ones. My policy is if it looks like a girl, then it might as well be one.
I guess you could try lurking at the yaoi boards in 4chan to see what the fans there recommend, since they’re not always talking about hardcore yaoi.

I guess the issue here is why now? And having browsed through them myself, I can honestly say it isn’t as obscene as it’s being portrayed, so chances of readers turning into raging homosexuals are next to nile, and feel that Setsukyie’s sentiments are directed more to the fact the authorities are focusing their energy at trivial matters when there are more important issues to take care of. Either way, I don’t really want to delve into local politics so let’s leave it at that.

@shin: It’s our mentality really. But honestly, if it was not the Kosmo writer that protested, it would have been somebody else. You must remember that we are made of a multiracial society, and some are not comfortable with it. Like I said, no matter who is at the helm of the government, BN or PR, this would still be banned.
Honestly the KDN didn’t care much about it in the first place (as the mangos have to go through them anyways before being sold here), but as ppl (read: the article writer) complained, they just go and take it back.
While I also find the action a bit excessive, they are just doing their jobs.
