Macross 25th Annivesary Convention

In conjunction with the series' quarter century anniversary, a convention, which was a collaborative effort between the Macross Fans of Malaysia society and the Taylor's College Anime Society, was held today at the latter's multi purpose hall.
Fulfilling the task of senpai(no longer have much of an affiliation with the club), I attended the said convention to be part of the crew. Anyway, there isn't much to report, as I didn't have much knowledge nor interest in Macross to begin with, and the attendees were, should I say, modest in number.

Booths being set up before the arrival of visitors

Robot figyas!

More robot figyas! I swear I would have taken more if they were plastic women instead....
Regardless, there wasn't much on the itinerary to begin with, so right after the obligatory speeches and whatnot, there was a singing lip-syncing performance by one of the club's members portraying as Lin Minmay. Soon thereafter, the Macross PS2 competition kicked off. It was an Ace Combat-esque with the fighter planes possessing the ability to transform into full fledged mechas.

The crowd(?)

Participants giving it a go before the actual competition.

Some dudes tinkering with their figyas.
A pretty ho-hum affair until Hannah Tan, the ambassador for Animax Asia(one of the event sponsors), dropped by to inject some life into the event. As it turned out, she was also there to promote her fanclub(lawlwut) and after being urged by friends, I signed up as well, to which I earned an autographed postcard from the ambassador herself ^^; Speaking of freebies, there were quite a few being passed around. Apart from the Animax goodies, which consisted of a clear folder with postcards and a phonestrap, Ben(a local artist who's gained international recognition for his works) and his minions from Komik Factory(his very own publishing company) were present to promote themselves and give out goodie bags as well.

Hannah's newfound fans. Anime club president is the bespectacled guy.

He's no Taka Tony or Kazuya Kuroda, but he's the best we've got!

So that's how it feels like to stand beside a 3D woman
After more PS2 shenanigans and a trivia contest(it was all Macross related, so I really missed out on the prizes offered orz), it was finally time to air the Macross: Do You Remember Love? movie, which was the highlight of the day. Unfortunately, being part of the staff, I had to give it a miss, so I have no idea what it was like. Oh well. After much idling, I decided to leave the place a little earlier to have dinner(I didn't eat anything for breakfast or lunch as I went straight to the site ^^; )

Me being stupid with the club president.
As you've read, there wasn't much happening on today, but I guess it was alright, considering the appeal Macross had to our small community of otakus, and the fact there was actually a proper anime event(cosplay and all) being held somewhere else, so most of the potential crowd have gone there instead. Talk about clash in timing. I'll take my leave and catch with the releases for the day. Shin out.

Man, wish I was there. I’m a macros nut so yeah I would love to attend this. Btw the last pic rules (Gundam box ftw). And Hannah Tan ain’t that bad either, Lol ^^.
January 26th, 2008 - 21:57
Yup, unless you’re a fan, there’s nothing much here to cater to the ordinary folk like myself. The Gundam box was apparently the idea of some LYN forumers who were present lawl. About Hannah, it felt odd having someone like her in an event for otakus, but I guess that’s just me.
January 26th, 2008 - 23:03
Not that pose again! LOL.
I thought the original Macross was just okay. Quite cheesy at times. Haha. You’re no longer in the club? o.o
January 26th, 2008 - 23:27
That’s the only pose I could think of ._. I’m a total Macross noob, so I didn’t get anything that was going on. I serve only as an advisor right now, so I’m no longer an official member per se. =P

Well wish i could be there too as it seems so interesting.. Too bad got some errand to do but hope next year will be as good as this (I hope).
January 27th, 2008 - 00:23
Looks happening there..
Maybe location in KL superior to deserted Nilai
January 27th, 2008 - 00:36
Funny, I expected a bigger turnout at Nilai too. Oh well.

o_O
1. Nice Shirt.
2.Shin+3D woman = stoic. You need to get out more. (Damnit she’s so hot how could you keep your face straight like that??!?)
3.Hannah T looks out of place there. Niche anime fandom+mainstream media chick do not match. Bt I don’t think anyone’s complaining.
3. Doesn’t look like a lot of ppl but given the circumstances…I’m not a Macross anime fan either, Frontier is my first time into the anime (I’ve read the american bastardization novels).Downloaded Do You Remember Love fansub but just can’t get used to the old school. :/
4. Nice Figyas.
5. Hows the club doing nowadays anyway?
Lulz needs sleep. Won’t have minded attending myself but that’s the downside of being separated by a hugeass sea. :(
January 27th, 2008 - 01:19
1. Thanks. I had more people noticing it here compared to CF too ^^
2. I no longer have any interest towards 3D women =(. Hey, I do go out…to buy computer parts and anime stuff….
3. That’s what I thought too. I didn’t mention this in the post, but I snickered when she referred the audience as enthusiasts, as she sort of hesitated for a split second, thinking of what to call us. Nerds? Otakus? Lawl.
5. If you like robots.
6. Same old, I guess. I’ve not went for meetings in forever lawl.

Fun fact: Shin does not smile for the camera
January 27th, 2008 - 04:29
camera shyness? lol
January 27th, 2008 - 07:19
Shin does not smile for camera. SECONDED
well at least the turn out looked better for MAC. Superior location is definitely a deciding factor.
January 27th, 2008 - 08:00
Dood, wry such serious expression? lolz
January 27th, 2008 - 10:18

January 27th, 2008 - 11:54
I was brought up by wolves and from there I joined the chinese triad as a contract killer by the name of Tightlips Shin. I kill people by biting their thyroid and go kappuchu~ while doing so.
January 27th, 2008 - 14:34
GATTAI DA , SIMON!!
Hmm…no Gundam Gaijin…..
January 27th, 2008 - 16:34
I kinda messed up that shot to be honest, since it was meant to be a little higher up, as shown here: http://atalude.files.wordpress.com/2007/12/gurren_shirt.jpg
January 27th, 2008 - 21:20
LOLWUT? Hannah Tan? Who’s that? LAWL!
Went there for the lulz. Kind of disappointed with Lin Minay though. *sigh*
And i heard she was coerced, shame on you guys! :D
January 27th, 2008 - 21:28
Yeah, they forced her to do it. Hence the disinterested, reluctant face ><
January 28th, 2008 - 03:09
Where are the manly fusion? Mechas are not touching! ORE WO DARE DA TO OMOTTEIRU!
January 28th, 2008 - 23:16
