C73 Doujin Games

One of the other things one should look forward to from Comiket, apart from the abundant pr0n, are games from independent developers that are on par as the ones by the pros. Here are some of the titles that I have personally tried or gotten me interested.

PatchCon! Defend The Library!

Although ZUN didn't release a new Touhou game this time around, the ones made by fans tend to explore new genres with the series, be it beat 'em ups or side scrollers. My most favorite game from C73, PatchCon! is a fast and frantic real time strategy game that involves deploying of various Touhou characters in defending your base.

Recettear

Recettear looks so good it could have easily passed off as a professionally released RPG for the PSP or DS. I've yet to try this, since I'm still so engrossed with PatchCon! and Clannad. ><

Magical Battle Arena

Was hoping to play a game where I could use Nanoha to befriend people with her trademark Divine Buster, and MBA somewhat delivers. Only the demo is out for now, where only Nanoha and Lina Inverse is available(Kinomoto Sakura and Fate Testarossa in the full version), but judging from the first 10 minutes of play, it's loads of fun despite the simplistic gameplay mechanics, which is a good thing for me, since I suck at fighting games....And yes, I missed Lina when I took the OP image ><

Lucky Star Troopers OMEGA

I didn't expect much from this game, and sure enough it wasn't much fun orz. It's still an okay side scrolling beat 'em up, with cameo appearances by Hatsune Miku and Bonta-kun. Strictly for fans.

Ether Vapor

Not a big fan of SHMUPs, but this really looks awesome, and the graphics somewhat reminds me of Ikaruga and Einhander.

Es trial version β

Just wow. Think Zone of the Enders with mecha musumes and you get this mind blowing mecha action game. The graphics are rather bland, but the excellent gameplay more than makes up for it.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekitou

Still in the midst of downloading this, but the 4 way battle reminds me of that Higurashi Daybreak game from C70, which means it's going to be loads of fun, especially if you have gamepad ^^

There are still quite a number of games out there, but they're mostly SHMUPs, so yeah. Either way, be sure to give these games a shot, and in case you're wondering, they can all be obtained from Tokyo Tosho. Back to PatchCon!
